Now we have all heard of the usual Phobias people frightened of spiders, heights and so on, but there are allot of strange ones.

For instance I am very frightened of balloons bursting to the extent that if I see a balloon in a place where it might burst (on the ground say) I have to quickly walk away from it.

My wife has a phobia about the music from Ice Cream vans (ever since she saw a scary movie with it in as a child)

Does anyone else have a strange phobia?

Girl in my girlfriends hockey team is frightened of beans...to the extent that we can chase her around with a can of (unopened) baked beans. Strange but true.

Saw a programme recently about a Yorks village full of people with mental problems and a woman on it had an 'acute' fear of falling over!
Very funny and quite sad at the same time. She was terrified walking anywhere.

Don't think they qualify as they're entirely logical!

A great way to deal wih a phobia She's not nuts. A baked bean phobia was shown on a series about such things a couple of years ago. It turned out that it was linked to the Heinz packaging; when presented with Sainsbury's baked beans (different colour can) the panic was much less. Washing the tomato suace off helped too - which just shows you how weird these things can be. SIlly to the outsider; very real to the victim.

We only did it once...

I know phobias shouldn't be laughed at; don't think hers is like the one you describe though; she's actually phobic of just about any kind of beans, although some are apparently worse than others. IIRC kidney beans are the worst...

That was a highly amusing programme, that is all i am prepared to say on the matter for fear of sounding incorrect, but the two guys that were convinced they were in an elevator were hilarious.

I have a Phobia of tea bags, I don't drink tea or coffee and if anyone is making a cup of tea I have to leave the room as they freak me out (especially when they are being taken out and put in the bin)

I am strange....

Well maybe she just dislikes the thought of them - which is not a phobia. A phobic will have increased heart and sweat rate, palpitationis, panic attack etc and be distressed even if there's a can of beans in the same room, maybe even take a different aisle in the supermarket to avoid walking past them.
It's important to realise the difference between a real phobia, which is very physical and can be life-affecting, and simply not liking something. Another misplaced one is 'allergic to' which now often means 'doesn't like'.
Didn't mean to chew you out, just getting things described properly

The noise you get went sweeping the floor or when rubbing two bits of paper together.

I've no idea why but it really makes me shiver.....

Foam. (The synthetic sponge type). The feel of it just makes me cringe. Makes it worse when people send things packed in the stuff off Ebay.
