EA888 3rd generation/2.0TFSI problems?
Discussion
A lot of that was improved greatly in the last few revisions of the EA888 gen 2. My early gen2 used a fair bit of oil, my late gen 2 used a little bit of oil, my gen 3 doesn't use much at all - maybe 0.5 litres over year (6-8000 miles) but still well within the normal oil range on the dipstick.
One thing to watch out for is that the coolant tank does not have a silica bag inside it. They can split and the silica beads end up in the heater matrix, which is a PITA job to fix.
I believe the water pump/thermostat is also a relatively common failure.

What about problem with cams? One thing to watch out for is that the coolant tank does not have a silica bag inside it. They can split and the silica beads end up in the heater matrix, which is a PITA job to fix.

For some reason I can't play videos on youtube today, so not sure what the video is saying but being honest, I've not bothered checking any of the cam values on my gen 3 yet. I can't post full link so open this, right click on highlighted text/go to..

I used to monitor them pretty religiously with VCDS on my gen 2s but I was under the impression it was largely sorted on the late gen 2 engines with updated tensioners etc. AFAIK around 80-100k you need to start checking the wear values on the gen 3. I'm just an owner though, if your video is reporting issues with them, it's probably worth checking it out.
