I bought a car 4 months ago and since have had no end of trouble with it- it’s currently awaiting head gasket tests next week but effectively means for the past 3/4 weeks it’s been in and out of a garage chasing faults.
In any case, it’s left me in a bit of a pickle as I only own 1 car at a time and I live in a town that doesn’t have good public transport so it’s leaving my wife and I stranded every weekend (luckily work remotely but affecting other non-work commitments).
Does it make sense to buy a (fun) shed to run around in for a couple of grand? It is likely I will be looking to sell the main car when it’s repaired as I’ve now lost trust in it and so I’d probably also benefit from having the shed when I buy a new car.
I know it won’t make financial sense in that it’s costing more money, but has anyone else done this before?

Not the same situation, but similar.
I used to run a single car - so it had to tick all the boxes.
It was a thirsty car and I liked keeping it in mint condition, whilst also driving 30,000 miles a year.
When I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to keep another car (space), I purchased a cheaper diesel daily.
The cost of insurance / tax were quickly offset when taking into consideration 30,000 miles in my "nice car".

I bought a 2 seater Coupe in 2014 but needed something my octogenarian Mum could get in and out of so I bought a £2K daily for a taxi service.
It worked so well I've run 2 cars aver since. Using the daily Shed for Tesco, etc. saves the good car from trolley rash!
Fingers crossed I haven't had a scenario like yours, but it makes life much easier when I change one of them.
