I'm puzzled - my 7 year old Zanussi induction hob no longer responds to its (touch) on switch and appears completely dead. The RCD hasn't tripped and the red light is on the wall mounted outlet switch (its set to ON of course). As far as I know there isn't a fuse in the installation so whats happened to the hob?

It's deceased, gone to prop up the daisies.
It's an "ex" hob

Maybe just the switch has failed - or you're wearing gloves...

Well you maybe right about pushing up the daises. Which switch? The wall one or the hob?

You say there's a red light on the wall switch which suggests that it works. Can you plug something else into it to test, or is it hard wired?

Have you checked in the mirror to make sure it's the hob that's dead?

Unfortunately its a hard wired one so I guess some kind of circuit tester will be needed to see if its the power supply or the hob itself.

Thanks everyone for the help and for cheering me up too.

Have you looked at/googled the instructions?

I know our induction hob has a childsafe lockout feature and you need to press a few things on the touchpad at once to unlock it

Well it turns out there is a child lock but that’s not the problem. I reached under the counter and gave the heavy connecting cable a wiggle and the red lights/ numbers on the hob display briefly flashed on - looks like it’s a loose connection to the hob.

It was an induction hob at the beginning... if it's ceramic just throw it away smile

Looks like you've found the fault though, and hopefully a simple free fix with a soldering iron or screwdriver.

I blame the idiot that installed it (me). Yes hopefully just tighten up the wire retaining screws and cable grip.
