My wife mumbles !
Anyway to settle the argument I went to a local audiology centre and had quite an extensive hearing test .
I went expecting a full certificate of Olympic quality hearing and an apology from my wife .

I was actually told moderate to severe high frequency hearing loss , suggested hearing aids £2k to £5k in the range .

I came home and told the wife I had perfect hearing and I have no need for such things .

Has anyone had similar experience and taken the aids ? I genuinely don't feel I have any hearing loss but neither does my 90 year old mother in law who says what all the time and says everyone mumbels and her TV is so loud you can hear it outside her house .

Its the type that sit behind the ear and a wire type affair that pokes in the ear .
Did you find it was worthwhile , is it hype. Is it why the hearing test is free .

As an aside the chap that did the test really spoke very loud !
I am not denying the result albeit I was surprised . I had never felt my hearing was compromised . I do find the wife hard to hear but assumed it was a life adaptation after 35 years of blissful marriage .

Following with interest as I am just about to go the same route. I am busy oiling my ears at the moment in advance of a wax-removal session (by vaccuum now, apparently - no water involved) and then an audiology test.

I do remember that a mate of mine said that the best ones he had used were the NHS ones.

There have been loads of threads over the years (presumably as the PH demographic ages!)

But yes, they really work, yes it can be a bit disconcerting hearing bird song etc for the first time in years, and yes, audiologists/graphers have learnt to speak up. hehe

I've had NHS aids for most of 10 years and can't be without them. No idea how I coped before.

I had almost the same story. My wife said I never listened, but turns out I actually had mild hearing loss in both ears. Got a pair of behind-the-ear aids from Specsavers and honestly, they changed everything. Even small sounds like birds and TV dialogue are so much clearer now.

Another one who was amazed at the difference they made. I went for Phonak Virto Titaniums as they're invisible and I'm vain.
