We are having Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney prepared, but the letter of engagement only quotes the agreed price for the will.

"As confirmation the cost we agreed for preparing and completing your Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney will be £xxx plus VAT and disbursements."

If we sign the letter and the solicitors accept it, does this mean they have to prepare the powers of attorney for free?

I can't believe it does, but would like an niternet legal eagle's opinion.

Isn’t the cost in x simply the total for both wills and the (4) LPA’s ?
According to “my “ letter there is a breakdown showing them separately and then a total to which I signed off.

It's only the agreed cost of the wills. We didn't agreed to go ahead with the LPAs - but we may change our minds biglaugh

Ah my bad then.
But no you won’t get them for free smile
Given how important LPA’s potentially are can I be be nosey and ask why you didn’t go ahead or are you going the no doubt significantly cheaper DIY route ?

We only went in for the will, and we didn't think it was appropriate to just tell our kids that not only were they executors to our wills, but that they would be names on the LPA laugh

The solicitors were also on the expensive end of acceptable for price, so we'll shop around for them.

If you can read and write English and have £82.00 you can do it here:https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney

No need for any legal entity to charge you additional fees.

This will probably be what we do.
