I am planning a high speed stint on the Autobahn.

I have driven before at 140mph but wanted to know if there is a thread or any advice that experienced drivers can share at a higher speed

I have a Jag which will do the job……

Keep your eyes on your mirrors as there will be someone going faster than you and they won't like being held up! Timing is important as they tend to be very busy and lots of roadworks too.

The autobahns are frequently quite crowded so I would be inclined to use an offpeak time like early Sunday morning for example. Pick some more rural stretches rather than around large cities.

In my experience German drivers are very predictable and are aware of the traffic around them, but there are sometimes tourists who do not share that awareness.

I have frequently run quite high speeds on the autobahns over the years; just remember that they are not fully unlimited, often 120km/h in wet conditions and under bridges, so keep an eye on the speed limit.

Stay in the middle lane unless you are passing.

At 180MPH you are running three miles a minute of course , so be aware that traffic ahead can suddenly slow down in there is a problem or congestion.

Don't assume they all have no speed limits, they don't.
Don't do a maximum speed run on a two-lane section.
Keep one eye on your mirror.
Have a blast!

More sound advice. I would definitely pick an early morning in April/ May. When you put it at 3 miles in a minute it gives it a different aspect haha.

I anticipate a very short time at 180 mph.

Just remember that kinetic energy increases with the square of the speed.
So braking from 70 mph to zero will be losing about the same kinetic energy as braking from:
100 down to 70, and also
140 down to 120

Fabulous. I am very wary of nocturnal wildlife in the dark.
I was once pulled on the M6 Toll and the copper actually highlighted the damage a small animal not using the green cross code can do. He just let me go with that thought in my head

About 10 years ago myself and a few mates drove overnight to Austria to go skiing. As it was getting light on the Sunday morning on a very quiet autobahn near Munich the local 911 owners club were out for a blast. I was doing about 100 and they came past me like I was stood still! hehe

You'll think you are going fast and some chap commuting will appear every quickly behind you with a flash of his lights to tell you to move over.
