I have used my Honda (Petrol Manual) for the past 15 years ( It's 23years old now with a bit over 400k KM on it ) without much trouble at all and it has been cheap as chips to run, still works ok biggrin

Apart from Fuel,Oil & Filter Changes, Brake Changes, Tyre Changes I have spent probably under $100 in these 15 years on it. Servicing it is dead easy, it takes the cheapest $hit oil , no special tools needed and I generally do everything on it myself.

There are No Potential Expensive Diesel Problems, No Timing Belts to change,no Transmission Fluids to change ,I'm still on the Original Clutch as well.

My buddies and Some Family members on the Other Hand have BMW's / Audi's and they spend an Absolute Fortune repairing those things and doing all kind of BS Servicing on them all the time. Btw their cars are a fraction of the age and Mileage of mine, Just a Constant hassle of Various BS Problems with them.

I kinda want a new car (Few years old Model) just because mine now is old as F and I Kinda want a Nicer car as Mine is a total Shed now, but I'm genuinely Scared...
Is there anything on the Market that's NICE but also won't give you a Constant headache & Suck you Dry?

Firstly, what country are you in? Your profile says UK but you talk about km and $. It's relevant because the car I'd recommend is no longer available in the UK but may be where you are.

Keep what you have, if you want reliability its not in something new.

Keep your old Honda, in two years it will be considered 'classic'.

Toyotas are reliable and have a 10 year warranty if serviced with them.

So a GR86 or GR Yaris might be a good option.

There are a couple of known A110 issues (fuel pump, corrosion) but AFAIK Renault have been good at fixing them for free, so that feels like a reasonably cheap to own car considering how nice it is.

My daily is a 20 year old 6 cylinder BMW 330i so has no diesel issues, a cam-chain, manual gearbox BMW claim is filled for life (although I've had fluid changed for peace of mind) and AFAIK is still on the original clutch, although it has only done about 130K miles.

The problems seem to often get worse the newer the car is. A year or two after mine was built BMW fitted a revised N53 engine that is prone to injector and high pressure fuel pump issues, then more recently the 330i got a 4 cylinder turbo engine with other potential problems. Clutch life is more about how people drive than the car!

I've come to the conclusion mid 2000s cars are a good compromise between some modernity without excessive complexity that causes big bills. I've no desire to buy anything a few years old for that reason - sometimes it makes more sense to keep what you have.
