Just had a call from an Audi dealership's Service Manager who says he's had better mornings; five cars were targeted last night.Rear windscreens smashed for their parcel shelf.

E-tron and Q8 parcel shelves are sought after by thieves.

I went out to replace one for an Arsenal legend a few months ago and thought it was a one-off. He couldn't work out why anyone would smash the rear windscreen to pinch the parcel shelf, and neither could I. But it's a thing.

Lock up your parcel shelf.

Years ago I had the side window smashed on my (at the time, now ex) wifes Fiat Punto to steal the tax disc. They did this on a Friday afternoon in the works car park and left £10 of change in the ash tray. It was our only car at the time and I had to spend the afternoon phoning around to find a dealer with a window and getting up early on Saturday to collect it.

It would have been less hassle if they just knocked on the office door and said "give us £150 or we break into your car"

Loads of Q8 parcel shelves on eBay for £400, that's why they steal them!

WTF? where is the black market in rear parcel shelves coming from? What else could they be used for? Smuggling?

Went on eBay and typed in "Audi q8 p" and it completed as parcel shelf which signifies that's a very popular search.

My first reaction was to question who cuts holes in their parcel shelf to fit Goodmans speakers! But it's cars that have been rear ended and the parcel shelf gets crunched.

Some, being a roll-up cassette type thing, get left when loading/unloading.

A new one is about £600 I'm told.

They also get pinched out of cars at auction so the purchasing dealer or 2nd/3rd owner then looks to ebay to buy a replacement. It's a sort of perpetual rotation of parcel shelves.

A few times I have found them in my garage after forgetting to reinstall them when part-exchanging. I guess there must be a demand for replacements but really quite a bizarre story.

I've got loads of parcel shelves in my workshop because I take them out so the dog can get in and forget to put them back. Plus the boy doesn't like them for some reason so I have two of his as well.

Might start a shop. laugh

Yes I think this has been a thing for a while. My G63 had its parcel shelf pinched while in for a service. The dealer agreed to replace it but i noted that it was £800 list price. Insane for what it is really. But its easily removable and if these scrotes can steal enough and then sell them back to the victims on the likes of eBay then they are creating their own market and making a cool £400/day if selling for half price.

The police should definitely look into that guys ebay above, looks to be the only thing he's selling.

Came across a Q5 recently with a smashed rear windscreen, this must have been why.

The only way to stop this would be for Audi/VW to sell them at cost price to stop the cycle.

Police won't be interested, too much work to investigate.

Were Goodmans mounted ON the parcel shelf, or was that Audiolone? It’s been a while..

… and this seller has 85 shelves, all used, all high end cars

@glassman might be worth sending these two’s eBay account listings to the Audi dealer?
