If You Met Yourself
Discussion
AI
I've not explored AI at all, but -
What would it be be like to meet and spend some time with yourself?
Have a conversation with yourself.
Do some car maintenance with yourself.
Spend some leisure time with yourself.
Talk cars with yourself.
Would it go well or end badly?
Can AI do any of this and how do you think you would fare?
End up best friends or maybe not?
It is possible to develop a LLM based on your own data - so it would read everything you've ever written and build a 'personality' around that. So yes, given the desire (and money) you could have a conversation with an AI version of yourself.
One interesting progression of this, is that it is theoretically possible to build AI models of great figures from history, particularly if they were prolific writers or diarists. Imagine a high school History class chatting with Winston Churchill or Marcus Aurelius as if they were actually there, and have them answer in the same way as they would were they still alive.
Even deceased relatives, if they had enough of an online presence could be kept 'alive' by a custom LLM. A bit morbid perhaps, but maybe future generations will be chatting to you OP based on your PH posts and whatever other social media activity can be scraped from online archives.

That's because, deep down, we have an internal dialogue telling us how "bad" we are compared to others..
Most of us are fairly decent people otherwise our friends/family wouldn't put up with us.
ETA people always remember the stupid or embarrassing things they did. Nobody else does. (apart from their wives)

Alternatively, feed an LLM the entire posting history of a PH member together with the context of the thread it was posted in, and then use that to annoy the tits off said user by posting something crafted in their style *before* they manage to post the same thing themselves, using the content and progression of the thread and an analysis of the user's posting cadence to predict when to make the post.Hypothetically speaking, you might christen it "Project Blurbotoke", as a random example.

So who are we going to choose

I have a paid subscription to ChatGPT, and I use it everyday - I just told it someone on PH was asking how AI would describe me, so could it provide a few sentences of what it thought about me... here's what it said
If AI were to describe me, it’d probably say I’m the sort of bloke who likes things done properly — detail-obsessed, bit of a perfectionist, and not afraid to call out nonsense when I see it. I’ve got a soft spot for cars that are rare or interesting rather than fashionable, and I’ll happily spend hours chasing the right spec or part number just to get something right. I’m direct, fair, and loyal to the people I care about, but I’ve got zero time for fakery. Equal parts engineer and humanist, basically — logic with a bit of heart.

If AI were to describe me, it d probably say I m the sort of bloke who likes things done properly detail-obsessed, bit of a perfectionist, and not afraid to call out nonsense when I see it. I ve got a soft spot for cars that are rare or interesting rather than fashionable, and I ll happily spend hours chasing the right spec or part number just to get something right. I m direct, fair, and loyal to the people I care about, but I ve got zero time for fakery. Equal parts engineer and humanist, basically logic with a bit of heart.

Isn't AI basically telling you how you see yourself (as opposed to how others see you)?If AI were to describe me, it d probably say I m the sort of bloke who likes things done properly detail-obsessed, bit of a perfectionist, and not afraid to call out nonsense when I see it. I don't know about AI, but any time I see a video of myself, I'm always appalled at how my voice sounds and how I present myself to the world ... it bears no relation to how I imagine I come across
I was at a business show recently and did an interview with the local paper - my god my voice is annoying. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
