Waze, voice search only in Android Auto

It seems that using Waze in my car via Android Auto, I am prevented from using the on screen keyboard function to search for an address and I am prompted that "voice search only" is allowed.

I get there's some logic to this, to prevent typing on a screen whilst driving along. However, it's prevented from the moment I start the car up despite still being in park with the handbrake on sat on my drive. If I'm not using a recent or saved destination, I'm forced to use the voice search which often gets things wrong, or enter my destination in the app on my phone before connecting to the car.

Is this a recent update to Waze, and is there any way to set it to allow keyboard search whilst stationery?

I thought it might be an update to Android Auto, stopping using keyboard use genereally, but I can still do manual searches on google maps, so this seems to be a Waze restriction.

It's annoying, but I can live with it by searching destinations beforehand, but it is useful sometimes for a passenger your giving a lift to to enter their address whilst driving along.
