Companies House Identity Verification!
Discussion
I've just had to complete this as I have a Ltd company. Was it just me that found the whole thing a bit of overreach?
Apparently there is a new requirement (Law?) to validate your identity to Companies House. I've ran my business for 18 years and had my returns and all documents filed as requested by my Accountant. Now I have had to go onto a Gov website, register and navigate my way in circles to eventually get an e-mail to print off a letter to take to an actual Post Office to be "verified". This took the form of having a QR scanned, my Passport scanned and my photo taken!
What is the point of this? If and I mean a big IF this was aimed at eliminating dodgy businesses (Barbers, Vape Shops, Mini Marts, Car Washes, Souvenir and Sweet Shops, you know the list...) then I would understand and put up with the inconvenience, but I suspect it will be the usual extra work for legitimate businesses and the illegals will carry on with impunity.
What are the chances of this actually accomplishing anything?
ETA Didn't see the other thread, but it seems not just me who couldn't get the .Gov website to work properly...

Got to be honest as a member of the public if I'm dealing with a business I want to be as reassured as I can be that it's a legitimate business.
Fake directors multiple directorships scam companies and all that.
I know legitimate businesses can still behave terribly but in the grand scheme of things I don't see an issue with being required to prove who you are if you're going to run a business.
