I know a few PHers count steps, so thought I’d start an ongoing thread.

I usually aim to average 70K steps each week, so an average of 10K steps per day.

Annoyingly I almost hit a 10K average last year, but got ill last Christmas so averaged 9996 steps per day for 2024. hehe

Currently averaging 10,890 per day for 2025 and did 83K last week.

So how many do you do? Any targets? Any advice?

I credit my weight loss to walking
I do 6k before work with dog and around 6k at dinner if it’s dry so I’m averaging about 13 a day.
Although I do have a rest day once a week

I don't have a target, but I like to walk. I usually exceed 10K, but some days i get nowhere near it. Yesterday I did 28K, today, about 8K.

I've exceeded 30k quite a few times but never 40K

I set a daily minimum of 6k, most days even more. 73 year old with other health issues. My attitude is 6k is better than 0k. Started to lose weight too.

I try and do at least 10k steps a day. It’s easy on the days I run. Most steps I have ever done is just over 40k in a day but that was walking around Las Vegas.

Best day this year was 32636.

I sit on my arse all week but generally do at least one decent walk on a weekend, sometimes two.

Daily average is shocking though, 4-5k.

My biggest issue is that most walks involve going for a full English or a couple of pints, sorta undoes any good it's doing me hehe

31,810 is my best this year on the annual work sponsored walk. hehe

I’ve consistently hit 9K-12K at work recently, so hoping to keep that up over winter as I dropped off massively last year.

I'll represent the lazy buggers - average around 2.5k a day! I don't know how some of you have the time

Walking the dog mostly. Me and Mrs CO generally walk the dog together in the morning but this is usually a shorter walk, 30ish mins but I take the dog out in the evening for 45-60 mins. Dog needs her walk rain or shine so it means I am consistently doing around 10k steps a day, or a little over 300k/month, which coming to think of it is a wild number, i cant believe I have to buy shoes so infrequently given the number of steps they do!

Normally over 10k a day, but around 20k a day when we are away in the motorhome. Except for July and August, it goes down to around 4k a day

I've let it slip recently, so I've been looking up some mortality charts to try and find an excuse for myself , it looks to me like the sweet spot is more 5-6,000 steps.

Obviously 10 is better, but if you're gonna pick a spot on a curve.

Average around 7.5k per day according to garmin.

Not sure i trust the accuracy, just do what I do and try not to get wound up.

That's todays.... No plans for that to increase other than walking to the kitchen to make a brew....

That's pretty typical of an office day, WFH days are even less.

I thought the 10k steps thing came from a pedometer advert and has no scientific basis whatsoever.

I think originally came from the Japanese government to in courage its citizens to get fit using the Tokyo Olympics as a backdrop for motivation, I believe they handed out the pedometer free of charge.
