I'm racing on sunday for the first time ever... OK, it's only autograss, but apart from a few runs up the strip on a RWYB day I've never raced anything!

We had a spare Nova lying around the workshop, so we've prepped it for class 2 and I'm driving...

At the moment I'm equally excited and nervous...

WOOOO HOOOOO

Have a blast - in a bout of ironic symetry, Sunday could yield my last race - money finally run out, and gf has a few other ideas on which way my life should be going.

Over the last few years I've had highs and lows, gone really quickly, had shocking laps, and hit a few walls. All I can say is that I have never had a bad race weekend - it is not possible. As has been said above - Go Slinky!

Good luck mate!

Motorsport is the best thing in the world, and probably the most expensive!! Looking forward to my fourth season next year in stock hatch, if my gf and wallet allow!

So how did it go, Slinky?

Must admit, I'm on a bit of a downer today as yesterday was the last race of the season.

What am I going to do with my weekends until the Spring?

You know what they say - Racing is life - everything before or after is just waiting!

Well I can report that I'm still alive!

It was a fantastic day, completely not what I was expecting, and I got more racing than I was expecting as well. .

I was put out in the first "open" by our crew chief, he decided that I just needed to get out there and get a taste for things, so I was out on a horribly sticky track with a load of other class 2's and 1's..

Nothing had prepared me for the pebble dashing that I'd get from the start, so squinting through a muddy visor I managed to keep going around the track and pull 7th... out of 8... At least I got round and didn't crash.. not bad for my first outing!

2nd race was a heat for the first round in class 2. The track had improved a little by then and I gated relatively well, putting me in 5th place for the first corner. Following an old friend around the track I had plenty of pace, more than Dick in fact, but was unable to pass him due to his sideways cornering technique! (in a Vauxhall Nova!!) He was lifting for the corners and I have having to give the stoppers some clog... So I was stuck following him and came in 5th... Unfortunately 5th wasn't quite good enough to put me through to the final for the first round

3rd race was a heat for the second round in class 2. The track was getting a hell of a lot better with a nicely polished racing line. Pulled a stormer out of the gate and got myself nicely into 4th. Following another friend, Phil, around the course I could see that I had more straight line speed than he did, but he has the benefit of experience and was cornering more efficiently than I. There was a change at one point to pass when Phil dropped off the racing line and into the ruts, but I was unable to capitalise on the opportunity.. so it was back into line behind Phil.. the chequered flag waving saw us almost side by side, so a hard fought 4th place was kept. Once again, not quite enough to see me into the final

4th race : Out in an open again with both class 1's and 2's. Gated badly and ended up stuck in a bit of a melee.. 2nd corner on the first lap saw a border counties mini seriously out of shape on my front passenger side corner, so a gentle rub and I was through, push on a bit more and catch the pack. Following Phil again and it's much the same as the third race, so finish in 4th...

All in all, a bloody fantastic day...

Have I got the bug? You could say that Will I be out racing again... Next weekend by the looks of things

If anyone gets a chance, take it... It's one of, if not the cheapest and most widely supported forms of motorsport in the uk.

If you want to know more about the sport, have a look at our teams website, or have a look at the NASA site, www.loosenet.co.uk/nasa/

Cheers,

Im a autograss driver myslef ( new poster aswell ),
Im in the juiniors, but next season im off into class 5.

I think more people need to know about autograss, its easy to get into with around 60 clubs in the UK.
Its a motorsport that can be as expensive as you would like it to be, class's ranging from 1 - 10 , 1 being a standard stripped out mini, and 10 being a custom built chevy/bike powerd rocket.

Looks like I'm definitely racing again this Sunday.. WOO HOO

Hopefully my aching back will be slightly better by then... I really didn't realise how much driving around a grass oval could punish you!!

All the best for the weekend, Incorrigible! Let us all know if you win the championship!

And, yes, this racing lark is definitely a drug.
