Apologies for clickbaity title, I’m a child.

Daughter’s bedroom window lacks the space for a traditional curtain pole (some bugger put the roof in the way), so she’s slumming it with a roller blind. It does almost nothing for light, warmth etc. and flaps around with window open in the summer.

Short of a power bulge in the roof, can anyone suggest a blind/curtain/shutter solution I haven’t thought of?

The previous owners seemed to have had an aversion to curtains and fitted heavy thick roman blinds. No idea where they came from though biggrin

They are like curtain material and lined so they are as effective blocking light and heat.
They are exactly as wide as the recess, no gaps down the sides.

Get the sidewinders with the 2:1 gearing otherwise it's a workout raising them in the morning!

If that sloping bit is plasterboard you could make investigations...

Why not fit a curtain pole above the reveal, then gather the curtains on the left when you want them open and pull them left to right to close them?. Use a tie-back if it helps, to keep them back as they could be bulky if lined. Simple.

Well, I mean that's the standard PH answer isn't it?

I don't know how I managed it but I did fit the curtain pole inside the window and a motorised roller blind. "Alexa close all Roller Blinds", "OK"

Instal a pole.
Dont put a finial on the right hand end.
Drill a small hole and insert the pole into the wall so it looks like its coming out of the wall.

It is, but I’m not sure how much it would gain me, or how big a notch it would need to be practical, and then how good it would look. Dig out the hole saw and have a look I guess.

Thanks for the suggestions, plantations shutters look quite good.

Curtain wire. Ikea sell one with a pivoting head, I’m sure there’ll be an alternative on Amazon etc.

Simply put an extending aluminium pole just inside the window bay and wedge it in at both sides.

Cost? £10.

If you know a friendly plumber with a pipe bender you can get a metal pole custom shaped to fit your situation.
I have provided a technical drawing below for reference and quotation purposes.
I’d advise a bracket right at the end of the bent end to catch the open curtain.

Why not just attach flat bar type brackets to the upper edge of the window aperture that extend beyond the face of the wall and support a conventional pole across the opening?

Idea and technical drawing definitely not without merit; I think that works in practice but I'm not sure the "droop" on the right would pass wife's appearance test.

I'd thought of this, but worry it would end up the curtains would take up a good bit of window space and light in a room that is already on the dark side. Not that my daughter is a sith lord, that is.
