Fining rail companies

Netwok rail is being fined £3.5m for it's part in the Hatfield crash.

Personally, I think that the money could be better spent on repairs to stop it happening again. They should have sacked/personally fined/inprisoned the people responsible, not the companies.
All a fine is going to do is to put up the amount they charge the train companies for the track to cover the fine, which will put ticket prices up so once again the customers lose out.

So what about the people invovled... I love the way the press seem to gloss over the fact that the people behind the scenes and stuff have nervous breakdowns trying to live with the guilt...

How many bodge or half jobs have you seen in places you've worked that go unchecked..?

Absolutely. All it does it make the company poorer and Gordon Brown richer.

Agreed,........ and the Politicians who decided, against all advise, to rip the industry apart, and privatise it in the first place.

In ALL these privatisations.....Maintenance has been the first thing out of the window.......they have no idea of the value of their own, in house, engineers and what they do.
