Tamiya 1/35 Cromwell Tank
Discussion
I usually build 1/72 aircraft and 1/350 ships but always fancied having a go at some 1/35 scale armour after seeing some of the amazing builds other people have done. The tipping point was picking up the Meng 1/35 British MkV Male tank kit a while ago - always wanted to have a go at this and absolutely love the WW1 stuff. But not wanting to dive into this as my first armour kit, I thought I'd have a go at a simpler kit first - the Tamiya 1/35 Cromwell was one that quite a few people recommended as a starting point, and readily available at my local Hobycraft - bonus!
Despite being a slightly older kit, the build was typical Tamiya. Went together an absolute dream, with no issues. I wasn't sold on the rubber band tracks, so purchased an aftermarket set of individual link tracks. After spending what felt like a day building just one side, I completely reappraised my aversion to the rubber band tracks and hence ended up with one plastic multi-link track, and one rubber original kit track. Both have their pros and cons - still not sure which I liked the least.
Model was primed with Army Painter matt black rattle can primer, then base coated with Vallejo Air acrylics, followed by a coat of Tamiya gloss varnish before decals, then finally weathered with some oil paints.
Really pleased with the finished result - so much so I'm now half-way through my next armour kit, the Tamiya 1/35 Archer artillery gun

Has come out well. One thing that almost surprises me about larger scale kits - they still have tiny parts to stick on!
Yep - see it a lot on discussions about ship kits, people saying they like the 1/200 kits as it's much bigger and less fiddly than 1/350, but what that means in reality is a much higher level of detail, so an AA gun at 1/350 might be 2 parts, whereas at 1/200 that same AA gun might be 15 parts!Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
