I've never had one, but by all accounts the M57 engine seems to be pretty robust.
If you don't do massive mileage a petrol with the N52 might be an option. My 2006 E91 325i had done 139K when I sold it and still performed really well.
Most BMWs from that era are prone to oil leaks from brittle gaskets, and E9*s are getting to the age where rear subframe corrosion can appear. But I really like my current E90 330i despite it's nearly 130K miles and becoming a Cat N in 2023!
