Home deliveries... of booze!
Discussion
Anybody else having issues with DPD now requiring photo ID for alcohol delivery? as in they will only accept Passport or drivers license as proof of ID? My supplier has just switched from Yodel (never had an issue with this lvel of ID) and their drivers have been instructed that this is a must now!
As far as I can tell this is not an issue of law as all they are obliged to do is follow Challenge 25 procedure procedures but this only kicks in if the guy doubts you are not 18..... I'm 66 and look every day of that FFS
Yes I'm taking this up with the supplier (who realise they're likely to lose over £5000/year of my hard earned habit) and the courier but in the meantime anybody know and understand the law on this?

DPD have just been here today, with 2 bottles, didn't ask for age at all, having said that Marcin has been coming here for over three years.so likely knows how old I look, and he was about to put it in the parcel bin anyway. That's via Amazon.
I've had others deliver who want to know exact date of birth, some just the year. and I never give the correct age, so I vary from being 30 to 80, DHL, Yodel And EVRI.

Do you have either of those forms of ID?
The dpd driver wont be able to sign off the delivery without being shown ID. Their Ipad wont allow it.
Your delivery is not worth losing their job over.
Just get the delivery dropped off at your nearest collection point. It will probsbly be a local shop or post office and they sill verify your ID.

Can't see the issue really.
Delivery person knocks at door.
Open door, show delivery person ID.
Delivery person hands over booze.
Shut door.
Am I missing something or is it just an issue with being ID'd at 66?
I do not have current photo ID to satisfy what they want. Not even my birth certificate is enough for them! The guy that just delivered today that has been here many times without problem apologised and explained that he and others were given this directive only last week. We did 'sort' this delivery but I'd rather not elaborate on this and potentially get him in trouble so no more to say about that. Delivery person knocks at door.

My delivery is way too heavy to do that and besides they may well still required the type of ID I don't currently have. The dpd driver wont be able to sign off the delivery without being shown ID. Their Ipad wont allow it.

Get a Citizencard then.
As it has the PASS hologram it is valid ID for any UK ID requirement.

Yep - I've applied for this and paid - still waiting on my doctors surgery if they'll sign off the reference let alone do it lol meanwhile I still have this problem that's really pissed me off as I've convinced myself it's not actual law!As it has the PASS hologram it is valid ID for any UK ID requirement.

Edit: Another annoyance is that I do have a current OAP bus pass that has photo ID and in Wales that is accepted in many places - even my solicitors accepted it as ID to receive a rather large sum of money as an inheritance!

To approve the sale of alcohol you need to be able to prove your over 18.
At 66 you shouldnt need ID but
When I used to work in pubs it was an easy get out clause to not serve some one that you didnt want to serve without telling them the real reason to save their and your blushes.
No ID no service.
Just because you look over 18 does mot mean you automatically get served.
Law applies the same to off sales(delivery) and on sales

Had this problem with Amazon for a while. I haven t been IDed in a supermarket for probably 30 years so it s not like it s marginal.
Can t see why they need ID when it s obvious the person taking the booze is old enough.
This is one of my points. I can understand the requirement if the item is of high value and they want proof that it's been delivered to the correct individual - but that would be a request from the vendor and not the courier - I'm trying to find out from the vendor if it actually comes from them or DPD Can t see why they need ID when it s obvious the person taking the booze is old enough.

Their Ipad wont let them confirm delivery with out it.
They probably have to take a pic of the id to confirm delivery.

I hold both a pissport and a driver's licence, so why do I need an ID card as well?
Like Mr Mint, I also have hooch delivered and this additional requirement is going to slow the courier down, wonder if he/she get more money per drop?

This is just a sneaky back door way to get people to BUY an ID card!

Its for people like Mr Mint that have no other form of ID and helps stop this conundrum.
The courier will get no more money. They have to do the ID check for many types of restricted items like kitchen knives or firework etc.
