Will the new axial motor in the GT cars be enough to quell their current trend on increasing mass whilst embracing the benefits of Hybrid, parking full electric until better batteries are available ?

I’m more intrigued by the 18 cylinder engine (EIGHTEEN?) smile

I thought this was an indulgence they probably couldn't afford ...

More weight, more complexity, more cost .... for how many cars ??

Sounds great. Can't help but think "more things that will break and need fixing hopefully under warranty."

I can hear it now ...

Irate phonecall to supplying OPC.

Owner "My 994 GT3 RS F18 CC has a large pool of oil underneath it. Could you send someone out to recover it and get it fixed for me please ?"

OPC "Certainly sir, what's the mileage ?"

Owner Oh, sorry, I don't have it to hand, I'll just go and get it, bear with me"

Owner returns to phone.

"Hello, it's reading 3467 miles"

OPC Sucking through teeth "Ah, we won't be able to recover your car sir, the warranty's voided on it I'm afraid"

Owner "What do you mean my warranty's voided on it, I paid £205 thousand for the car less than 4 months ago !"

OPC "Let me just double check something sir"

Owner "Thankyou"

OPC "Right sir, can I just clarify something, yours is the 994 GT3 RS F18 CC ?"

Owner "Yes, it is"

OPC "You are aware the CC is the Cars and Coffee edition, and thus it's meant to be trailered to and from such events, not actually driven ? And that by driving it, applying paint protection film to it, or having it ceramic coated, you automatically void the warranty on the vehicle ?"

Owner "Oh, that wasn't explained to me"

OPC "You should have bought the 994 GT3 RS F18 DE sir, DE stands for Drivers Edition, but it's an additional £300 thousand pounds and comes with a lifetime engine warranty" ...

The Axial Flux motor sounds very similar to Vonnen’s Shadow Drive for older air cooled cars

biggrin

Well, I'm getting on the list for the DE model! I'll put down my left testicle as a deposit, of course.

Most post 2020 buyers of GT products will opt for the CC edition and wonder why it’s gone wrong

Yep ... I wonder what aspect of Porsche's application for this doesn't already exist ?
