When I got the car I remember my filler cap being dead center in the clam apature, because I recall Rob (AMGMerc) saying his was off. Now, after a year, I could see it had moved, and after a quick peak I suspected the piece of hose between the filler and the tank had shrunk a bit and was pulling the filler down.
As you can see in the first photo it's a simple matter of undoing the jubilee clip and sliding the hose up a few millimetres (note the shiney section) Do this at the bottom as the flage is three times the size of the top one. The clip was also facing inwards and hard to get a screwdriver on, so I twisted it around for ease of use later.

I did the same for the top jubilee clip...

...and the result is as near to perfect as dammit.

If there is a moral to this it is "if I can do anyone can" :D

Cool Martin, worth doing now and again but don't you find that when the engine is hot the rubber expands and the whole thing moves?!

Also whilst your at it don't forget to tighten the nut at the base of the filler cap so the seal is improved?

Lastly, whilst we are in this area I was at Vegantune yesterday (do those boys like cars or what! ) and they noticed that the short rubber fuel pipe under the filler (not sure whan it does, they did tell me!) was perished due to what's in unleaded fuel (pipe is only 18 months old) so suggest you all check yours (I'll post up a photo tomorrow).

Only took 10 minutes from start to finish, Greg, I have to be careful with my time or I only get 5 rounds of golf in any week!

Anyone is welcome to come and have a look at all the stuff I have to put up with...which car to take today...which golf course to play...which restuarant to eat at...
Seriously though, I know I'm very fortunate at the moment, but I'm here due to a large compensation pay-out for my leg. If anyone wants to swap thier good leg for 50 pieces of silver then e-mail me.

Martin, knowing how you got that payment I have no intention of swapping! As they say health is worth any amount of money, and seeing your skid lid and knowing you are in Spain because warmth helps the pain doesn't mean I'm jealous of you.

well, not that much anyway!

My filler cap is actually that bad I'm sure the clam bounces off it when I hit any bumps. The noise is alarming.

I'll get onto it and sort the problem today. Cheers Martin
