Can profiles that have been dormant then suddenly come to life have been 'hacked'?

I have been reading the "Trump" thread for a while now and every now and again someone pops up to support him then disappears again. At the moment there is a user called MOTORVATOR who is posting fairly often. However if you do "pistonheads + MOTORVATOR" search it only seems to produce posts form 10+ years ago mainly relating to boating issues.

The recent stuff is about Russia, 'Prince' Andrew and Trump, nothing like the older stuff. Seems rather odd.
Well yes if the password has not been changed for 10 years then there is plenty of time to crack the password. They may even have purchased a list of email accounts and passwords already, then random try them on every site they can think of, to see if they work. I guess then you could sell list of sites with password to others.

They seem to have been posting consitently over the entire period of their membership. confused

It's quite possible for interests and hence subjects they post on to change over a 22 year period ...

I'd suggest that the tin foil hat needs to be put away. wink
