What did I see?

I am hoping people can help, because I have failed to find anything on Google.

While out for a walk at lunch a creature ran across the path in front of me, when I got to the area of the hedge it ran into I could see it, but I have got no idea what it was.

It is about the size of a rabbit, but with ears similar to a squirrel and no obvious tail. Similar in colour to a rabbit as well.

Anyone got any ideas?

Might have been a stoat.

If you ask my mum what the difference between a weasel and a stoat is, she says:

“Weasels are weasily recognised, but stoats are stotally different”.

Great life advice mum, that’s all I can remember now when I talk about them.

That is the closer I have come to an answer, but I don’t believe it was stoat’s are quite long, this was more rabbit shaped, with no sign of a tail.

Quite odd. There is part of me questioning myself if it was actually a rabbit with its ears flat, but its face wasn’t the right shape.

Also, rabbits tend to hang around in large groups and I have never seen a rabbit in this location before.

Too small to be a deer.

I did wonder about a Coypu, but apparently they've been eradicated...

Yep, I'd go with Coypu.
They hold their tails quite low so you may not have seen that.

Coypu is a good shout for the body size and shape, but the nose, mouth and teeth are wrong.

it is genuinely bizarre.

I am now starting to doubt myself and suspect it might have just been rabbit with it's folder flat, but I have never rabbits there before.

Rabbits with Myxy tend to be alone and generally not as alert or aware as a healthy one ?
