I received the same email from my AM MD too, which incidentally is also part of the Grange group. BRM.

Why have they used a picture of the screen from a 2C model? smile

I wondered the same.

I assume this applies to Garmin systems only from the dates?

I think so LTP, although it may be possible that an early 2011 car could have the previous Volvo system with the worse screen? I’m not sure which MY brought the introduction of the Garmin unit with the higher resolution screen, but it must have been around 2011/2012. It is certain that none of the models quoted have the MB system though. BRM.

Is it cheaper via Aston Installations? They can also fit extra cameras to the system at the same time.

I also had the same emailed to me. I'd just go to Aston Installations personally.
I have their installation with the extra cameras and can't fault it.

So the units themselves are currently on sale:
https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wireless-apple-car...

I got one on the basis it's supposedly plug and play. After a lot of swearing and loss of blood I got the unit fitted, set dip switches as described and ... it doesn't work frown

The Nav display comes up with the usual "Agree" page but the joystick won't work, I can't press Enter to get past that screen so even legacy nav is inaccessible. Moreover the long-press of back button does nothing. And the unit itself has a flashing blue light, supposedly that's for firmware updating?

Anyway I've now removed it again and thankfully my old nav now works fine. I'm awaiting reply from their support but I'd caution it might be better to pay for installation. Better still, and hindsight being 20/20, I'd choose Aston installations despite it being considerably more expensive.

I may change this opinion if there's an easy fix but I don't relish trying to refit it.

I know there's another PH member that managed to fit one just fine so ymmv.

I’d be interested to know what they are installing.

Pre covid I had my 2016 model year car’s AMiII (with the Garmin bolt on satnav) upgraded to AMiIII at AM Cambridge (RIP). That gave not just CarPlay but also the much better than Garmin fully integrated AM satnav. I think the price was over £4k, and it involved a firmware download from AM HQ which Cambridge had a bit of trouble with.

Since then a lot of non-OEM solutions to achieve the same thing have come into the market which are self contained, and as others have said Aston Installations is the current market leader.

Given the model years in the email it looks like the upgrade offer is for AMiI-equipped cars. Hence interested to know what they are installing, as if it’s a fully functional but non OEM solution (odd from a main dealer, I realise) I’d go to Aston Installations.

One caveat on having Aston Installations install a front camera: if your front plate is mounted bang centred vertically on the trim below the grille you should be fine. Mine though is a little lower and obscures the image from the front cam, cutting off the top third or so. The cam has a few different view options, and once installed you need a hard button in the cabin to cycle through them. I ended up keeping that well out of sight, and having the cam provide a left & right corner split screen view.

Do you have a picture of the plate obscuring the camera? Doesn’t sound ideal sadly.

Not to hand as the car is in storage, but I will get one.

That’s interesting / annoying then. It should work. Hope you can get it sorted, assuming you haven’t given up on it.

I DIY installed the IDCORE CarPlay/AA device, sourced from Unique Auto Developments, into my 2016 Vanquish. I'm very happy with it.

I detailed my experience here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/aston-martin/4...
