My Griff only came with one key.

Popped to a local Timpson's and after much huffing and puffing and page turning through a bible of key diagrams the 'technician' said £35.

I was expecting something like £5.99 for such a simple key?...must admit I haven't tried to get a duplicate key cut for over 30 years.

I said I'd think about it and walked off.

Is £35 the going rate?

Mine is quite obviously a Vauxhall item, that's the ignition barrel source, so I'd have expected it to be a lot less! Unless yours has been doubled up with the remote button for the locking / alarm?

My spare still has the Opel insignia on it. Perhaps the blanks have become hard to come by?

In my case, it's only the ignition key anyway, the remote fob for the alarm / locking / immobiliser is not involved.

I understand your mention of security but the chance of anyone making a key from a picture, whilst feasible, is almost zero, isn't it (?). I've replaced the photo with blade profile obscured anyway. smile

Going back a few years now I used Keysinthepost.com to make a spare key for my Chimaera. As mentioned above it is a Vauxhall key and I gave the key code Y and four numbers from my owner’s manual to get it cut right. Worked perfectly for me. Cost was £18 about 8 years ago.

25 quid gets you a whole new barrel with 2 keys. Easy to change and without the inevitable slop that will have developed, and potential chance that the second key doesn't work anyway due to wear etc.

More than 7.95, but comes with more guarantees biggrin
