Very Low Mileage Car
Discussion
Would you be concerned buying a 2016 McLaren that has been parked in a collection for 8 years and apparently has not been serviced. The car has less than 4000 miles on it. Ostensibly the car is like new but would you be worried. I believe the car has been back to a dealership for a check over and only had one minor item replaced.
It’d depend entirely on what the scope and remit of the check up was, what the car is and whether you plan to keep it indefinitely.
It’s likely tyres will be perished, various rubber bits and oil seals don’t like sitting unused.
A low mileage car traditionally carries a price premium, one that’s sat unserviced for 8 years less so.
Is it a p1 or a 570S.

If you plan to drive it, you ll destroy the mileage premium and be in a world of financial pain sorting out issues in a machine which has been at a standstill for 8 years.
If you plan to keep it in your collection and not drive it then carry on.
Or you could take a different approach and use it for 30-40k miles and it'll may still be worth similar to cars with that mileage on today, as opposed to perhaps showing 80k and being difficult to offload. If you plan to keep it in your collection and not drive it then carry on.

We haven t been told that this is the OP s intention. And even if it is, the loss of mileage premium from 4k to 34-44k miles will be far more financially significant than the loss from 40-50k to 80k miles. And then there s all the maintenance and re-commissioning cost and headaches, not just terms of money but also time. As you said, seals will have dried out and perished. I can almost guarantee that the AC won t be working and the lack of brake fluid changes could also mean that the brake system is corroded internally.
The only benefit of buying a 4k mile example is to enjoy the nearly new feeling and appearance of the interior. But it will come at a very high price and the OP will have to decide if it s worth it or not. A call to V or Thorney is probably in order to get a feel for the recommissioning costs and likely issues.

I saw a 2016 red 650s with 3.5k miles at £107k pop up for sale on Autotrader yesterday and then disappear by the end of the day. Is that the car?
Yes it was the same car but it might be a moot point if it’s gone. Thanks everyone for your input and I agree a very low mileage car is a worry. I know from experience my cars have thrown wobbles when I hardly use them. The service interval is annual OR 10k miles. So it should be serviced every year.
Personally if a car is being marketed without service history, I would not be paying a premium for a low mileage example. Especially a gap of 8 years. More likely to be negotiating a discount to account for reconditioning. These cars do not like to sit.

100% this. Imagine trying to sell on a car with 8 missing services!Personally if a car is being marketed without service history, I would not be paying a premium for a low mileage example.
