Following the untimely demise of my S3, I thought I'd go back to one of these and pocket some of the insurance payout to use towards my new house.

Anyway this is it
.

To do list:
  • replace dash top
  • refurb gear knob
  • refurb calipers
  • machine polish
  • sand and polish headlights
  • fit new OEM mats
  • fit dealer plates
  • fit dealer rear window sticker
First job was the gearknob which I painted after fitting a sticker from eBay...

Then the headlights...

This week will have the calipers refurbished so I'll put some before and after pics up once done...

Wicked car OP!

My first sporty car was back in 2003 when I bought a Clio 172 albeit I opted for a 'full fat' not Cup model. What a great car to drive though and very old school now compared to modern stuff.

Good purchase! I've had a 172 (non cup) for 6 years now, it's the most fun car I've ever owned! Look forward to seeing how you get on with it.

Every time I see a Clio Cup I check to see if it's my old one. Looks in decent order.

Love a Cup. Looks tidy!

I saw this in their showroom driving past a few times, I think those guys are involved in the Clio Cup racing series too. Are you local?

Me too. My first car (that I owned, drove my parents Astra for a few years). Fond memories.

Excellent- congrats on the right choice!

I m on my second and the to do list is still as long as one of those wooden boards Sreten lists out at the start of a restoration.

You probably know all the things to keep on top of- how are the inner rear quarters behind the rear speaker panels?
Have fun with it.

Always fancied one of these, or the 182.
Had the opportunity to buy one around 10 years ago, but went for the Megane 225 instead, which I think was a mistake.

Followed one in North Wales the other day and it immediately triggered "I'd really like one of those".

Cleaned the interior, fitted the new mats and gave the outside a clean and polish too. Front calipers are getting refurbished this week so I'll update the thread Friday when I get it back.

Seats were in need of a clean (hard to see but they do look a lot better...

Whilst looking at a scratch on the front wing (will tackle it at a later date) I noticed that the front shocks were in a pretty poor condition so I've ordered a full set of coilovers which have a 25mm drop so those teamed with the 15mm will give it a nice look whilst not looking too modified.

Also ordered a new driver and passenger window alarm sticker (£35 for two!) so will fit those once it's back from getting the calipers refurbished.

Car is back from having the calipers refurbished. Turned out the rears were brand new calipers but had them done anyway to stop rust starting, not bad for £200 all in

The bolts will be getting replaced when the suspension and spacers get fitted

I also started work on the windscreen washers as they don't squirt water (but recently passed an MOT hmmmmmmm!). Well, they do work as such but there's a trickle of brown water coming out of each of them so there's a blockage somewhere. Traced it all back and looks like it might be the washer bottle itself as until recently the car had been sitting for 4 years and the water in there is rank!

This is what came out

I've ran the hosepipe through it to get the biggest bits out and now I've poured some bleach in there to try and clean it, I suspect I'll have to do a few flushes to get it clear but now that it's started raining I thought I'd wait it out in the house with a cuppa.

After photos will be later today once the rain stops

Looks like it'll be a little cracker once you've completed it. (Hopefully it won't meet the same fate as the Audi. That was a very sorry read seeing that!)

Cheers Richard, that Audi was a lovely car and arguably the best in the UK.

Back on to the washers, looks like the pump itself is clogged so I've just bought a new pump and resevoir to fit on another weekend. Also, whilst I had the bonnet up I noticed some spurious wiring so I'll take it to my local auto electrian who can identify and remove/tidy up.

While I wait for the washer bottle and pump to be delivered I thought I'd clean the seatbelts. Something that's rarely considered by many, but a job that should be done a lot more than it is as they get absolutely filthy.

Next job is to sort this out. It's attached to the dash but finding a dash in decent condition is a real struggle (as the previous owner found out as they'd had it wrapped, poorly) so I've ordered some vinyl grey spray paint and a test interior part to see how it looks.
