Hello!

I've reduced my budget for a car now down to about £6k. I park my cars on random roads and in car parks for a week or so at a time so I don't want to spend much money.

Anyway, the first generation 508 has caught my attention. It looks good and is big but I wanted to know people's opinions/experiences with them.

I want a 2 litre as the 1.6 will have to be ragged as it's only 113bhp.
I've also seen the 2.2gt which looks good and a hybrid has just come into my search, just over budget but I might stretch.

Any experiences?

No cheap estates are near my in Torbay so I need info before I book the train to see one!

The facelift is such a good looking car.
The second one is on my favourites already.

Is the insignia good? I would like an auto if I'm going old man spec comfy estate.

Drove the 2 litre GT line spec cars with a manual box for a while at work and they were decent solid cars, no real issues to report.
I referred the gen 1 to the newer versions which for a tall person like me have an awkward roof line which makes getting in awkward and in my opinion is a lot more style over substance

Yes the Insignia is a very good car & imo well worth considering.

If you don't mind a CAT car you can get an Elite Nav:

Insignias are good yes, and the autos better still, as the 6 speed manuals are quite weak and have a few issues - also, check for corrosion on the subframes on these, front especially major issues with them rotting underneath the undertrays, holding in the moisture, had some advise from mechanics to remove the undertrays and discard them to let them breath! I have seen some shockers on some not so old cars, and some alarming MOT comments too.

Dont discount the 1.6HDI SW 508 either, it was a different engine compared the other 1.6's in the pugs (3008 etc), meaning a stronger unit as it was a 8v, the 16v had some issues due to coking up more - plus £35 VED is nice thing these days of course.

Does the 508SW of this generation have the small steering wheel and i cockpit? Maybe drive one to check you like that as I know some people never got on with it.
