I have no clue what this should cost, I did fear it may not be too cheap.
Clearing off all the moss/st on the roof, steam cleaning then applying a coating that stops the moss regrowing for 5 years, plus cleaning the gutters and window frames afterwards....... £700 quoted.....

It's a 4 bed detached house:

Just don't...

Few other threads on here over the past few years, majority of the advice is to not have it done at all....

Oh really? Hmmmm, maybe I need to do some reading then. When it rains our new patio gets covered in a lot of 'black st' from the roof for want of a better word, not sure how to stop that happening outside of this roof cleaning idea?

I’m going to paint a worse case scenario here as I see it. Someone going to go up there with a jet wash and try to blast all the moss away. In the process they’re going to be blasting water under the tiles, possibly loosening a few, definitely impacting how robust and waterproof they are, maybe even break / crack damage a few more tiles, whilst also flushing all that lovely moss onto your front, side and rear gardens which you’re never going to get rid of.

I’m sure there are people who will do a proper job with gentle moss killer and spend a decent amount of time clearing it effectively with no adverse impact to your house. I’m not sure they’d charge as low as £700 though.

Hmmmm, yes, well you put it like that, does sound rather unwise....

There are options for biocide (moss is very easy to kill) but generally any sort of roof cleaning is something to just run a mile from.

Just keep the gutters clear - shouldn't be an issue on a chalet - and accept that stuff will inevitably build up of the roof over time and wash off.

the only way it will work is to coat it with an approved product to protect the tiles

renotec about the best product on the market , once on 25 years forget moss /

do not let some cowboy firm on your roof with a jet washer , they will potentially degrade the tiles . its not really the right weather for applying a painted surface i would wait till spring

get an acredited company pressure wash roof using a biocide , then once dry coating in renotec probably looking at 1500

Looks like it's a bungalow, cleaning the gutters out is an easy DIY, a couple of hours work.

Not sure gutters are the issue at the back of the house, brand new ones installed when we did the patio.
Black st still all over patio after heavy rain

If the gutters are overflowing (causing the black deposits) there may be a blockage at the outlet point, within the downpipes or in the gully at ground level.

Alternatively the gutter falls may be incorrectly installed or sagging, preventing the water from running to the outlet points.

Just an observation from round here the cowboys who try to persuade people to let them loose up on the roof with a jet washer or similar bit of kit work hand in gloves with another set of cowboy roof repairers.

I think the OP has the message what to avoid. As someone else said it's possible to find someone to apply a suitable biocide and then give that time to work, however cost including scaffolding is not going to be £700. It's also possible with the right kit and access to diy.

Probably a job for wet and forget but getting access for coverage is your problem.
