Are these best ignored or is there potential hassle to be had from doing this? I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference.
Parked in this private car park on recommendation from my friend when out for tea the other week ('Everybody uses this car park...
) then received this in the post today.

Looks like the terms were 30 minutes maximum but not sure what the exact small print was on the signs. Of course it was a Friday evening and almost completely dead to add insult to injury eugh.

Oh well over given we were out for tea, probably 90 minutes plus.
I'm not trying to deny I'm in the wrong, I just took my mate at his word and assumed the signs were scare tactics. Didn't expect there to be a camera in bloody Forfar, where everyone marries their cousins.
As far as I am aware, there is no keeper liability in Scotland. Its different rules up there.I'm not trying to deny I'm in the wrong, I just took my mate at his word and assumed the signs were scare tactics. Didn't expect there to be a camera in bloody Forfar, where everyone marries their cousins.
I assume that at the moment, they don't know who the driver was... so they are a bit stuck.
(I can check the details with my mate in Edinburgh who seems quite hot on this stuff)

B*gger, too long to try the grace period argument sadly. I'm not trying to deny I'm in the wrong, I just took my mate at his word and assumed the signs were scare tactics. Didn't expect there to be a camera in bloody Forfar, where everyone marries their cousins.
I know exactly what you mean about the whole camera thing. We parked in a carpark down in Devon which is barely more than a gravely rectangle with space for 20 cars at most. Hardly a well maintained, shiny car park yet still had an ANPR camera which landed us with a PCN for overstaying but we managed to get out of that on the basis of grace periods.

I looked on here, seems you can ignore as it's in Scotland. I'd do my own homework and not rely on just us on PH, this thread in the link is from Nov 2024. https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/pcn-in...Parked in this private car park on recommendation from my friend when out for tea the other week ('Everybody uses this car park...

From 28th July 2025, FOI request concerning keeper liability. Response indicates that the relevant provisions (Section 8) of the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 are not in force in Scotland.

I don't know whether that is still the case.

Any examples I see are of someone who has been unfairly penalised though.
I can only presume they have photographic or video evidence of myself being the driver given they know the car was there. If it was pushed I'm not sure I can be f
ked with potentially getting chased if it is something they can pursue me for given I don't strictly have a leg to stand on other than it's a load of toss.

It unlikely they have evidence you where the driver. They will have got your details of from DVLA as keeper of the vehicle and written to you as keeper. Since keeper liability has still not been implemented in Scotland you are only liable if you where the driver. Who they cannot identify.
