steering rack indenfication (mk I/II)

How do you identify if the pas steering rack is a MK 1 or Mk?

Mine is leaking and as I understand TVR will only recon the MK2 version.

Not sure which rack I've got, but probably mark 1 as it's on a 95 400. Anyhow I had mine reconditioned recently and there didn't seem to be an issue with the model type - all done in five days, so obviuosly got nowhere near to Blackpool to be reconned! (I live in Leicester)

About £700 (all in)IIRC from Autotune in Barwell, Leics. Very good service and a very friendly chap.

Just for the refurb, or all-in ? I'm happy to remove / refit the rack myself.

That price was for recon and all fitting, laser alignment, etc. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to things mechanical and wouldn't trust myself to do it. The re-con alone was around £500 inc. VAT on it's own. Ouch! I hear you say, but a new rack from TVR is £1500!!!

You may not like this -- but it will help others, my rack was reconded with new seals etc for £80.00 by John at 3J's in Perivale M'sex.

I took it there and back as I only discovered it was bust on an MOT and the garage took it out for me - thier cost was £180 for this and it took up one of thier lifts.

The rack is a TVR specific one -- not a cut down of another vehicle -- but its made from standrad seals etc.

For £80-ish I wouldn't be too upset if it turned out to be unneccesary. £700 wasted would have been a bit more painful !!

Just had mine done when identified by the lads at Silverstone Performance. The rack was sent to TVR Power who subbed the work out. Cost of refurb was about £300 plus £200 labour.
