We often have a fair bit of sniping about places being crap and shafting the customer.

Well in this instance I’m going to give a bit of a Big Up and Thanks to the Royal HorseGuards hotel in London. I’m sure many of our seasoned travellers and Londoners know the place but some won’t, but it’s an old school fancy 5* place in central London.
Anyway, booked a cpl of pre Xmas night in town with MrsDeej for later this week on a none refund or cancel ticket. Alas my arthritis & sciatica have hit with vengeance this week and it’s not possible for us to go really. I rang up expecting the worst and they happily agreed we could shift the reservation back a month or so into Jan for no extra cost.

They didn’t have to do it, they were within their rights not to, but did. Yes, I know they can probably resell our room easily at this peak time and that it gives them some bookings in flat Jan and that the room prices are cheaper in Jan, but that’s not really the point. They have done me a solid, earned some cracking goodwill from us and I’m more than happy to give them some public praise and a shout out in return. It’s not a big thing I know, but a chap has to live by some standards in life and a bit of customer appreciation goes a long way with me.

Like your style.

Saying it out loud (or in a forum) is good for you, and it may be good way to steer someone their way too.

I agree - it's so easy to just mention the bad stuff. Well done !

And enjoy the break in jan, when I hope all is well for you.

Never stayed there, but the Royal Horseguards do so amazing dining deals on Groupon, so the wife and I eat their often. Always superb, and on Groupon, ridiculously good value.

Nice. Their breakfast is great. We stayed there a couple of times via a member over at bimmerpost.com who works there, on friends and family rates. Sadly f&f rates no more though.

Enjoy your stay!

Have stayed there loads of times. The views from the Tower Suite are pretty spectacular: https://www.royalhorseguardshotel.com/rooms/tower-... indeed I’d go as far as to say that it’s one of the nicest rooms I’ve stayed in from that perspective. It’s also a proper multi-room suite, which I prefer, to avoid waking MrsLT.

Another hotel near there with great service is the Sofitel on St James. They not only sorted out a diary malfunction on the part of MrsLT but have always gone the extra mile for the kids: little things like personalised cookies in the room for them, small dressing gowns when they were little, and even (the first time one of them stayed) a personalised picture welcoming them.

Tbh I choose the Sofitel whenever I’m on a personal trip, in preference to one of the more obvious high end hotels that I’ve used extensively when in town on business.
