I would like to get a TVR Cerbera 4.5 - I've seen them going for £20-25,000 and could just about afford one.

My problem revolves around insurance as I have a company car I have no no-claims bonus or insurance history. Also as I'm only 24 I know that I will get hammered for my age. Also I have a few point son my licence.

Is it worth waiting until I'm 25 and until my points have disappeared before trying to get insurance for the beast?

Someone told me to buy a crappy old fiat uno and insure it for a year at £250 to get a no-claims bonus which will save me money in the long tun.

Any ideas?

Hiya,

Yep you can pick em up cheap, but like all 50k cars they aren't cheap to run (most on here would probably suggest budgeting about 2k (often more!) per year for servicing ( even more if you're doing big miles / lots of track days - not to mention the speeding fines ). Insurance won't be cheap at 24 with points but it can be found, and honestly being 25 makes zip all difference it seems, had to wait myself until this year (28) before my premium started to actually go down.

Last thing I'd want to do is put anyone off buying a Cerb, but affording to buy one is just the tip of the iceberg - check out some of the owners profiles on here - see what it really costs and then decide.

I only say this as I've seen a couple of friends buy cars that they could 'just about afford' to buy, then have to sell them within six months because of the bills mounting - big heartbreak and financial loss which could have been avoided if they'd done their sums more carefully...

I'm sure if you do go for it though you certainly wont regret it. Absoutely fantastic car.

Oh and welcome to Pistonheads...
