Theft from car in for service
Discussion
My gate remote was taken from my car while it was in for service today, it always sits in the same place and there’s no way that it hasn’t been taken by one of their employees. I accept that I should have removed it, but I’d appreciate any views on where I stand with the dealer, they’ve yet to respond to my call but it was late in the day. Main concern is that they know my address and have access to my drive, not panicking but concerned.
My guess is that it wasn't in your car and you've misplaced it, or moved it. It's a really unlikely theft.
I'd hold off accusing anyone of theft. It'll be somewhere in the car, in a pocket or anywhere but a scheming employees hands.
I know that I've been certain that I left things - including a gate remote! - in my car or elsewhere, only to be proved wrong.

I understand your point but the remote lives in the same place permanently, I never remove it from the car, ever. I'd hold off accusing anyone of theft. It'll be somewhere in the car, in a pocket or anywhere but a scheming employees hands.

edit: Hers is in her jacket pocket. Or her purse. Or at her sister's house.

Was the car valeted? It might be in a pile of stuff somewhere, you could make an innocent enquiry to the garage to see if it got misplaced, without solid evidence making an accusation of theft is unlikely to get anywhere except finding a new dealer.
The fact the dealer hasn't come back straight away means they will be investigating, checking any cctv they have on site, etc.
Have you really searched the car with a torch? So many places it could end up especially if it had an italian tune up.
As others have suggested you need to make sure your domestic security is maintained, get the lost key removed from the entry system.
It is a complete PITA and why the vehicle should be emptied first.

To leave my home I have to use the remote, it lives in its little happy place in the car, always. Shame this place is getting so chippy these days.
I hope you didn't take my comment as 'having a pop'. It was a silly joke, not a serious suggestion.cliffords said:

Have to say it seems an odd thing for somebody to deliberately steal. It would not be worth anything to anyone else (afaics). Does accessing your drive give them easier access to anything they can steal? Countdown said:

Agree it’s odd, especially as I’d left a pair of sunglasses in the car, which in one way is more of a concern. Maybe a staff member having a laugh, maybe something more sinister but I’ll pick it up with the dealer tomorrow. Thanks Blue62 said:

I can understand your concern, every time I take my car for a service or an MOT the garage know my address and have access to my drive......but that's probably because I don't have any gates on my drive!

Really not.I've thought a trade nicked a makita battery charger. No, I didn't accuse anyone of it. About 18 months later I found it stuffed in a random box. The missus of course....
I've searched high and low for a gate remote.... left in a car that I left in a garage.
I'm sure we've all got stories like that.
Yes, your gate remote might be stolen. Very unlikely though, so always worth exploring every avenue!
