I bought an approved used BMW in August this year, it needs a service in January the app is telling me. Do I need to have it serviced at BMW to maintain the warranty?
I’ve rang 2 different dealerships local to me to confirm and one said yes the other said no.

Can anyone offer their advice /experiences?

Can independents update the service record on BMWs? I know when I was claiming they would always check their systems to see if it had been serviced.

Sorry not much help, i always used BMW dealers as I never wanted this complication

As long as servicing is performed with genuine parts by a specialist who can communicate with the car/BMW and the records are updated properly, I have not experienced any issues with BMW completing warranty work after specialist servicing.

It saved me a small fortune in servicing, and the warranty covered the supply and fitting of new rear springs when needed. The key is finding a specialist who has the right equipment to communicate with the BMW main system and uses genuine parts.

Try to use a BM specialist who can upload to i-drive,should be fine then.A handwritten receipt from Bobs Backstreet Garage might cause issues.

Careful here, the AUC warranty is more specific than the new car warranty.

Per https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/service-wor...

"Servicing your BMW vehicle.
– Failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW Group UK may invalidate the warranty. An Authorised BMW Centre or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only genuine BMW Parts must carry out all service and warranty work. The BMW Service Booklet should also be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing BMW Centre."

After one year the AUC converts to the Assured Warranty which is in effect an insurance policy. The terms on the latter allow you to use an independent as long as the schedule is met with genuine parts.

I'm surprised the OP was never given any documentation about the warranty when he bought the car.

Any garage can do it if they are signed up with bmw, you just log what’s been done but stupidly you have to put it in km not miles, then when you submit it’s done over the air.

We bought an AUC i8 in January this year from a main dealer. It's most recent service by the previous owner was done at an indy EV specialist. I queried this and BMW said that as the owner/indy had supplied evidence of the work undertaken it met AUC standards.

FWIW I had a service done last month by a BMW dealer as there was little difference in price to local indies.
