One of our two doesn't seem to like drinking out of the water bowl, she prefers running water from the tap in the kitchen sink. Wondering if a water fountain would be acceptable instead. Anyone got something they would recommend? Ideally easy to clean and not expensive for things like replacement filters. Quiet or silent operation would be nice too.

Yep, my cat was always licking at the tap, not been near it since buying this. Exactly what you're looking for

We have one - its one of the the stainless steel ones from Amazon , can't see the exact model but it just has the one water spout

They use a small aquarium style pump and we can't hear it, both cats love it.

Thanks both. Re. the noise, it was as much the running water sound I was hoping to avoid, as any noise from the pump.

The one I linked is silent on both counts until it starts running lower on water, then you can start to hear the trickle noise, which is a nice reminder to top it up.

No, virtually silent, you can only hear ours when the water level gets low and air is getting in the pump.

We have this fountain: https://amzn.eu/d/hz7szuf
Replacement filters are cheap: https://amzn.eu/d/97ZVn0p
It's near silent. It lives in the lounge near the TV and we don't notice it at all.

We have one of these also, I'd highly recommend it, the motor inside has a power adjustment slide.

The filters work very well for about 3 months and then need replacing. They're not essential for operation, they just keep all the floating crap out of the water.

I, too, have one of those.

Actually three, although the first one was replaced by the other two when the pump stopped working (and at the time it was much cheaper to buy a new whole unit than a pump; that has now changed!)

Feed them wet food and they’ll probably never need to drink water.

I’ve seen our near 17 year drink once…in her whole life.

Not sure that’s the best advice.

Mine eat wet food relentlessly and also drink tons of water.
Older cats especially eat and drink lots. Yours are probably finding puddles to drink from.

She’s really not.

Google it - quite often cats don’t need water at all if they’re on 100% wet food diet.

Fair enough. Surprising.

I can't remember the exact term for it but cats, on a natural diet (i.e. whatever they kill and eat) can derive most or all of their water requirements from their food. Domesticated cats may do depending on what they eat. Our two are given wet and dry and they mostly prefer the dry stuff - they are so fussy with wet food we're very close to giving up on that entirely as we've tried loads of different brands and they just seem to get fed up with it after a short while.

Regardless, I would say that it’s always a good idea to water available, as they get older, especially males they benefit from it to prevent waterworks problems.

We also have the cat mate fountain, has been running 24/7 for about 7 years now other than when we clean it, so certainly reliable.

Only hear it when it needs a clean out to remove biscuit crumbs or fluff that gets through the filter.

Little sod still sits and howls at us for the tap while we are in the shower even though it's been years since we last gave her a drink from one

The plastics starting to tarnish a bit now from age so think a fresh one will be under the Christmas tree for her.

I’d also read that if cats eat wet food they get enough water. However both of our younguns do still drink from the fountains quite a bit. We’ve got that cate mate one plus a metal similar one.

The cats would probably be just as happy drinking out of random puddles but this seems a bit cleaner smile
