Last week we had an internet outage and I could not charge my car! I re-connected my Hypervolt wifi to my phone’s hotspot to get it back online. This seemed to work but in the Octopus app said the car was not plugged in (it was). In the Octopus app I clicked on ‘Disconnect device’ so I could control charging via the Hypervolt app. I was then able to charge my car.

The internet issue was resolved and I connected the charger back up to my home router. I added my car back onto the Octopus app, selected the charger when prompted but this did not link Octopus to Hypervolt.

I followed the instructions on Octopus' website

https://octopus.energy/blog/intelligent-go-faqs/fa...

but I was not prompted to connect my Hypervolt as shown in the link above. The Hypervolt app is no longer linked to my Octopus account like it was previously.

Now when plugging the car in (BMW i3 120AH) it starts charging immediately. I have set the car to charge during the cheap rate but the Hypervolt seems to override this. It's a bit random when this happens though, but I also notice that charging did start on an Octopus schedule.

Anyone had a similar experience and were you able to resolve? I've been in touch with Octopus but their responses are very slow and they do not seem to understand the issue?!

Internet suggested a few things:-

Ensure you added the “charger” (Hypervolt) in Octopus — not the car
If Octopus thinks it’s controlling a car rather than the charger, scheduling won’t work reliably.

Open Hypervolt app → check Integrations / Octopus mode
Confirm that the charger still thinks it’s under IO-Go control. If it’s not, Hypervolt may default to “always on.”

Check for conflicting timers/schedules in car settings or Hypervolt settings
A timer in the car or charger can override smart-tariff scheduling.

1. I wasn’t offered the option of linking it to charger

2. Hypervolt app wasn’t in Octopus mode

3. It was nothing to do with timers etc.

What I later discovered after posting this is that the car would take over the Hypervolt once the Octopus app recognised it was plugged in. But by this time it had added a few kwhs.

I also contacted Hypervolt who said Octopus had made changes to integration where if you have a compatible EV they will only initially give you the option to link to the car.

Octopus came back to me today and they have done something at their end which has allowed the Octopus app to connect to the charger rather than the car and it all seems to be working ok now.
