So we have had a new boiler installed and hooked it back up to our Nest - all working fine and heating and water kick on and off as needed. Except in the middle of the night the heating is coming on - there is no schedule set for this OR min temps to over come

I am at a loss of what else to check now

Any thoughts???

I had similar with timer for lights.

I did a factory reset & then re input all the schedules. Might be worth a try?

How long does it come on for? Most systems have a regular anti-seize function but these don't tend to run for more than 5 minutes.

EDIT: Or you may have inadvertantly programmed a heating slot without realising.

that's what I thought - but its on for a few hours at least - woken me up a few times baking hot. Double checked the schedule and I cannot see anything in there either

This might be an option to try - going to find that and have a go

Has the nest gone into "learning" mode for some reason due to the change of boiler?

In the app go into settings and then under Nest sense there is an auto schedule option which will show as "on learning"

Is it anything to do with the anti Legeonares setting . Seem to remember that caused issues with ours on initial fire up.

Have you got True Radiant turned on? It can turn on your heating up to 5 hours earlier than set if it thinks your house will need that long to reach temperature.

Ashamed to say I still haven’t worked out how to get our Nest to turn the heating on between eg 7-9am everyday.

It did like you’re experiencing and started to come on 3 hours prior to 7am because it was taking that as the target temp to hit at 7am rather than just the operation period.

The self learning is also a load of balls, so we’re still, two years on, turning the heating on manually in person or on the app…at least they look good still.

Does anyone have a fool proof guide - it cant be impossible!

I'm using the Nest app rather than the Google Home one. I think what is confusing is that you can't schedule "off". You have to schedule a low temperature such as 5 degrees if you want the heating to turn off. Think of it like your scheduling the thermostat to turn itself up and down at different times of the day, rather than turning itself on and off.

Click on Thermostat
Click the cog
Turn off Auto-Schedule and True Radiant. I have my True Radiant set to 1hr, but it's simpler if you turn it off.

Press back arrow.
Click Schedule
Click on Monday
Click Add and tap above the time you want it to come on.
You can move the orange spot up and down to change the temperature. And side to side to change the time.

Click Add and tap above the time you want to to turn off,
Move the orange spot so it shows a cold temperature like 5 degrees. This is "off" effectively.

Press back arrow and do the rest of your days. You can have as many temperature changes in the day as you want.

To be honest if you want it just to come on and off when you decide, you likely shouldn't have gone for nest, the whole idea is it's smart and figures itself out (or not as you might be indicating). Given they're on an exit pathway in the UK, it might be worthwhile considering s different system which is more like a traditional thermostat but with a web connection for setting it?

My Hive app wouldn't recognise our system the other day for some reason, so I had to do a complete re-boot and used the process posted by Adam06 on here...

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4541083-hive-ap...

...and it worked.

I had this issue.

Turns out I was in standalone mode...

Standalone mode is where your thermostat and receiver are communicating directly and not going via the hub which is why it is offline in the app.

To get back into normal mode:

take a battery out of thermostat

turn off receiver at the isolation switch for a few moments

turn receiver back on and hold the heating button on the reciver until it flashes pink

hold the heating button again until it double flashes yellow

put batteries back in thermostat

hold the middle and left buttons of the 3 buttons on the bottom of the thermostat till it counts down to 0.
select your language and then it will start searching

on your hub press the black button for 1 second then the middle light should flash orange. Then look back on your thermostat and it should start pairing and then once paired it should be back online in the app.

I spent ages trying to get mine working so hopefully this helps someone
