Coolant problem

My Griffith over heated due to a radiator fan problem that is now fixed, however my expansion tank is now full to the brink with coolant and the swirl pot empty when cold. The pressure is causing my radiator cap to fail.
Help please.

Could be an air lock. Thy can be awkward to shift.

Undo the swirl pot top screw and run the car until hot, squeezing the hoses. You need to get the thermostat open to get all the air out. The expansion pot should only have a very small amount in it when the engine is cold, but it varies slightly between vehicles.
