Insurance renewals
Discussion
Insurance renewal is coming up on the 6 series, did not expect the prices I'm getting! Anything semi-reasonable is coming back as either a black box policy (absolutely not!) or needs a 1k+ excess. No claims, 9 years NCD- is this just a BMW thing? I was shocked to see my old man spec 640i sits in Group 50, I must confess I don't tend to look at insurance groups as never had this issue before with more powerful cars. Any company recommendations?
What works for one person may not work for another.
So whilst Admiral have been fine for my vehicles (one modified, one standard), they may not be the best price (and I don't just mean cheapest, but best value for the cover you need).
...and in a twist of fate, my renewal came in a few days ago, and is 25% cheaper than last year (-40% on the modified car, -10% on the standard car).
This is for a 55 year old male, with 1xSP30 and with cars parked on drive/road, in south Liverpool (with 20 and 10 years NCD respectively).

Obviously being 26 with a BMW is a red flag for insurers (I wonder why!). I'm with Admiral atm, I'll see what their renewal comes through as (I renew in January). Direct Line were £800 with an £800 excess
so we'll see. Adrian Flux quoted £3200, the highest quote I've ever had!
I'd been with Admiral for > 10 years, this year, their pricing had shot up for last months renewal, multicar discount my arse. They wanted 3x the insurance premium for the petrol vs diesel BMW, even though the Petrol is Group 42, and the Diesel is 45. I've moved my business.

£3200 is pretty high, although lower than I paid for a Cosworth in the 90's
I've used Churchill, Saga (no use to you!) and Aviva for my 330i and it only cost £208 in April!
My Z4M is also Group 50 and has some modifications plus I have an SP50. I've used Chris Knott, Adrian Flux and this year Hagerty who charged £430 in June.
It's easiest to just get on a comparison site if the car is standard.

I'll check them out too, your 535i is 10 groups down from my 640 (group 40 vs 50) for context. Looking at cars of similar performance, such as a W212 E400 coupe only the 6 series generates silly quotes.
Tbf, I'm also 10 years older which will probably help.Sign up to topcashback and use their compare site. That's how I get the £45 cashback which helps a lot
