Hi folks,

Apologies in advance if this has been covered recently. The PCM 3 unit on my 2016 Cayman keeps turning off (every 3-4 minutes) when in use and then reboots. It also switches itself on when I switch it off. My local Porsche specialist (Pie Performance - who fitted a Carplay unit to it), reckon the internal power unit keeps going down and causing the head unit to turn off and reboot.

I'd like to get this diagnosed and fixed, any recommendations on the best place to get this done (preferably in the Cambridge area) and any idea of costs?

I also have a PCM 3.0 in my 987.2, and it's done a similar thing twice in the last week. Mine went from 'Source' (a USB stick) to radio then turned off momentarily, showing the white screen, then back to radio. Switching back to USB it started playing halfway through the previous track.
I'd be interested in any comments.

do you have your phone paired to the PCM?

I had this in 2013 in a 981Box.

Turned out it was the phone i had at the time making the PCM throw a wobbly! (can't remember what phone it was at the time)

Just worth a thought.....?

I've had the phone for over a year, it's always paired, and this is the first time its happened. Worth bearing in mind though. I'll try it for a while with Bluetooth off (hands-free, of course).
Cheers

Has the hard drive been replaced - if not could well be that. Common failure prevented by cloning and replacing with solid state drive.

Can't recommend highly enough. https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/

repaired my PCM motherboad connector which I broke taking the radio out to find a squeek. Hamfisted plonker that I am.

Posted it to him, back in a couple of days, all sorted. Also bought my carplay kit from him. Great video instuctions in perfect English

Thanks for the feedback - could either be a corrupted drive or the power. Guess I'll need to get it looked at!

I had exactly the same thing as you described in my 981. It was a corrupted hard drive. It was under extended warranty at the time so the OPC just replaced the whole thing, as they do. That said, a couple of automotive-audio guys were confident of being able to sort it, no doubt similar to those mentioned above.
