Audi Q7 tyre wear
Discussion
Hi All,
Considering an Audi Q7 (as an alternative to Land Rover Discovery). I've had two Discoveries and experienced problems with both of them so now looking elsewhere.
The nay-sayers say that Q7's chew through rubber. I find that hard to believe unless you drive in a manner that eats tyres.
I would appreciate comments from owners who have driven circa 20,000 miles regarding tyre wear.
Many thanks.

I had the original model Q7 V8 for 9 years. Boy, that could chew through front tyres in 15000 miles or less if the tracking was even a smidgen out. That’s probably where the reputation you heard came from.
I’ve also got the newer model SQ7, had it for 8 years so far and plan to keep for a lot longer. I swap between summer and winter tyres. I’ve done 56,000 miles and I’ve literally just replaced the summers and the winters have 4mm tread left still.
So I think I can refute the assertion that the second generation Q7 is hard on tyres.

I have a 2019 Q7 3.0t I ve put 80k on and and a 2024 SQ7 V8 I ve put 40k on.
Both get around 30k a set. I don’t drive gently but I do probably 70% highway. Wear is about the same as anything else I’ve had of similar heft (basically all of them)
Both run DWS06 continentals. Forget what they came with.

They're huge, heavy, frequently driven around town, and often maintained like a replaceable utility (i.e only what the cheap service plan covers).
As above, treated with respect and mechanical sympathy tyre wear is only the same as any other vehicle of similar mass. Fronts will probably do no more than 15k around town, with motorway use stretching this out a good deal.

Thank you for the replies. The responses make logical sense ....... moral of the story must be 'only drive in a straight line!'.
My previous Land Rover Discoveries were showing indications of being able to achieve over 20,000 miles on a set of tyres, therefore a Q7 if driven sensibly should achieve the same.
I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
