Call me dumb, but I don't get the shades of grey illusion. A abd B are clearly not the same shade of grey!?!?
did I just say something stoopid?
Bob.
Nope, I'm with you on this.
But I could only get 10 faces. Though when I go to count them again, I keep forgeting which ones I've counted!

They are the same -hence my post above saying I checked it.

Unfortunately for you, they are the same shades.
The human eye/brain combination does some really weird stuff with contrasting colours.
The dynamic range of the eye means that colours are all 'relative', and it's the amazing processing power of the brain that makes it work.
To that end, the brain "knows" that anything in shadow needs to be "lightened" to make it viewable. If you therefore make up images like the one above, you would therefore have to darken down B to make it appear the same as A as your brain is doing an "auto fill in flash" function.
Tis the same reason why if you look at a person with the sun behind them you can see their face clearly, but if you use a camera you have to use a fill in flash. Because camera film / digital sensor has a much smaller dynamic range than the human eye if you take a picture and then show it to the eye, the eye doesn't have the range to work everything out and hence will show the face 'too dark'.
Fancinating the whole eye / dynamic range thing
