Might be a daft questions but my loft boarding has seen better days and I'm planning to reboard it, it's currently screwed down with a random selection of screws which I can only assume was all the previous owner had laying around

Doing it again now so wondering what sort of screws I should be using please?

Also, there's no insulation between the ceiling and the boards, would the 50mm kingspan boards (the ones with "foil" on each side) be a good addition whilst I'm at it ?

I’m no expert but the last few newish builds I’ve experienced have insulation which is much higher than the joists. (About a foot)

Boarding is then constructed on ‘legs’.

So if you plan to put the currently recommended insulation, you might need to consider these rather than boarding straight to the joists.

Thank you
I've got a 20cm void between the ceiling and the current boards, they are straight into the joists right now, ideally would stay that way to keep the head height

I have celotex between the joists and the ceiling below. When I fixed the boards down I used a felt tip pen to mark the position of cables and pipes below, mioght be usefull at some point

It would probably be easiest to put down some rockwool and screw down chipboard directly to the joists much as it is now.

Edited to add that decking screws are good for such jobs.

For screws go for a self drilling, self countersinking wood screw like Reisser cutters or Turbogolds. I prefer Reisser.
