Inspired (or copying from) the similar thread elsewhere about cars, I wondered what bike you were obsessing over today?

I am a compulsive window shopper and watch far too many bikes on Ebay with a notion that I could find a use for them (currently I am thinking track bike, despite having no trailer, van, or even much space for one). I also get diverted very easily when I look at the crash damaged bikes and wile away far too much time zooming in and trying to work out if I could justify or just could repair one and get a bargain. I've been looking for years now and haven't done it though.

So my obsession this week is also inspired by the small capacity four cylinder thread on here and is the Kawasaki ZXR400rr. Lovely little thing and being of an age where I remember two strokes and smaller capacity bikes with a high degree of fondness, this looks like a blast. Having also done track days on larger bikes, I really want to have a go on a smaller, higher corner speed bike like this. My rabbit hole deepened when I watched this too and now I am certain that I want one: https://youtu.be/axuaSc7vEAs

I will probably have another obsession next week though. So tell me what bike you are obsessing over currently (or if I am alone, I will seek help elsewhere...).

I keep Triumph Rocket 3's on my watch list. After a bit of depreciation initially they seem to hold their value quite well. Bottom of the market has been £13k for a couple of years now.

Don't think I'd actually like to own own but a good road trip to get it out of my system and to see if a rear tyre can be finished off inside 500 miles hehe

The latest Triumph Speed Triple 1200 with the electronic Ohlins suspension. I test rode one a few months back and the suspension was fantastic. I keep looking on Autotrader but the new price is far too much. I'm hoping they depreciate like the previous did (which I owned).

I too spend an inordinate amount of time considering what I should buy next. Determined not to do finance again so budget will be tops £10k next year (been saving up). Then I think there are lots of great looking bikes for a lot less than that.

KTM1190 Adventure in the £4500-6500 range looks more compelling than double that for a 1290. Aprilia Caponords also look like an interesting left field choice. I actually went to look at one and it was in surprisingly good condition.

Re 400cc four pots - I had a grey import Bandit 400 as my first bike. Revved to 13,000 which was insane after the CB500 learner bike so I can see the appeal of the ZXR400.

Rocket 3's seem to appeal to far more people than I expect. Not something I go for, but I kind of get why others might. It feels like a guilty pleasure obsessing over something a bit non-mainstream.

I could get behind the idea of a Diavel which you could argue has a similar range of uses..

Oddly it's a bike that I really struggle with the style of but I think I'd really enjoy! Also they're way better value now either new or lightly used, it's the KTM SMT890. Just a bit different and a good laugh with touring ability chucked in as well. There's even sticker kits to improve the looks, demo incoming once it dries a bit is the plan.

Since seeing all of the fun that birky seems to be having I really want to scratch the green laning itch. Tearing about in a quarry with my mates after school is what got me into bikes all of those years ago.

I keep browsing eBay but the problem I have is that I'd have to buy two so that the missus could come along, then I've got no space for another two bikes indoors... and I can't get two bikes in a caddy so I'd need a bigger van.

fking pipe dreams the lot of it hehe

Pipe dreams are what started this thread! I've got a mate who sends me videos of him doing green lanes oop north and that's another bike I need. I completely get the want. Next week that may be my obsession...It used to exhaust me when I used to dick around on a 125 green laning, so I dread to think what it's like 30 years later.

2026 R1.

Totally impractical for me, but I still want one. They are still available in Canada, not sure about the UK.

I've always liked torquey bikes, something that feels like it wants to rip your arms off.

I have an 1190 Adventure . I worked out the other day I have had 31 motorcycles and this one is 9 years old and the best bike I have owned of all the 31. I have noticed the 1290 has become very cheap as a used bike . People maybe not liking KTM. The bike shop near me in Sussex has a few 1290's and at 4 years old that are very cheap now in my view . I wont change as 1190 is great and next bike will be smaller as I am getting older .

Same. I did too and I loved it. Have a 765RS which I'll never sell but I can't stop thinking about it. May get one as the new toy and keep the 765RS for commuting only as it's over 6yrs old now.

A Honda CBX, ideally in red bur sliver would be OK.

We have similar taste in bikes lol, what with this and the K1 and I'm sure a few others across forum posts! I went with the Prolink version in the end, I have to say, it's a lovely thing to ride!

That looks really nice. I'm just a little bit jealous!

That's a strong endorsement.
You're right about the 1290 though - I hadn't really looked but their values are low for the amount of bike on offer. Hmmn. Uglier, but newer. Maybe next week's obsession smile

Had my 954 FireBlade 3 years which is as long as I tend to keep bikes. Spent a fair bit on it this year so planning to keep it.

I am finding myself riding to work meetings a fair bit more, so should really probably be thinking about a GS or something of that ilk; panniers and cruise anyway!

Think it’s due to the time of year, weather being crap and my Z1000SX being tucked away under a cover since October, but really fancying something to do some green laning around the Peaks, something that can get muddy and abused without really caring.

One that note, DRZ400s have been added to numerous watch lists.
