Mrs L & I fancy a late February break somewhere sunny but not a long flight away. Holidays in Tunisia seem very good value compared to the Canaries.

The country is still suffering from the armed-idiots-on-beach tragedy but I have read about efforts being made to attract tourists back. I have also read about gormless staff and repetitive bland food.

Could PHers please share their experiences?

It’s been about 10 years… but I used to visit Tunis fairly regularly and really like the city. Great food - some of the best Italian I’ve had (including many places in Italy)…

Movenpik or The Residence in Gammarth are nice. On the beach Biur also connected into a nice part of the city

Just had an amazing long weekend in Marrakesh and the wife/kids have previously loved the coast down at Agadir. Give Morocco a look thumbup

Absolute dump of a place.

Wouldn't go back if you paid me.

Even if your mrs is an absolute munter she will still be pestered and hounded by the men working in the hotels continually the entire time you are there.
I don't say that to be offensive towards your partner there just was a group of fat british women who must have been there for the equivalent of old british men going to thailand.

to top it off the food was absolute trash.

Horrible country, awful people, couldn't wait to leave. Checking under the vehicles coming and going from hotel for bombs with mirrors was also slightly unsettling

Yep, guy I drive with at work has just come back from a week AI in Agadir. Did the same last November/December too. He is very very choosy about holiday destinations, hotels and his holidays and said it was brilliant both times and an absolute bargain compared to the Canaries etc.

I was in the La Marsa district of Tunis for a few weeks in July and will be there again next month, for work. I thought it was charming. Nice architecture, good food and good value, as far as I could see.

Did you put this on TripAdvisor? thumbup

Went to Kerkennah in the mid '90s and it was a total sthole.

Only memories of the place were sitting round the hotel pool and a daytrip to one of the souks where all the (covered-up) women got back on the coach saying they'd all been gobbed on by the locals multiple times. Nice.

It's a strange one. I've been to Marrakesh a few times (with wife and daughters) and have always enjoyed it whereas I know others have hated it. Conversely my brother went to hammamet and hated it but a cousin went last year and enjoyed it.

I do wonder if it depends on whether you have a really off-putting RBF (resting bh face) which scares the locals?

I went 25 years ago, and I echo your thoughts on it entirely. It is easily the worst place that I've ever visited.

Same for me, hated every minute of it. Had the worst food poisoning I've ever had and it felt like every fker was trying to turn us over for everything we had.

Similar story from around 20 years ago. Everyone looking for something from you. Camel owners effectively taking wife 'hostage' until you paid a ridiculous sum for a canister of Saharan sand. The gift it was originally posed as suddenly needed a return gift from me. Yep, maybe naive of me

And, yep had a massive case of the Barry's (Whites) in the middle of the desert. Pulled up at some cafe in an oasis with a hole in the ground for a bog and the key to get into it tied to a breeze block. It got to the point where the owner reached for the key as soon as I got out of my chair...

I find with these places having a RBF does help. You've got to tell them to fk off in no uncertain terms and most seem to take the hint that this Yorkshire man is giving them sweet FA.

My youngest has almost white hair and you have to be careful as they all want to touch him.
