Is there an easy way I can fix him, he no worky. I’ve not got one but would a multi meter help, I’d buy a top of the range Fluke cheapo one if it would, or is it a case of just swapping each bulb, trying it then swap another, or is there a better method? He came with a few spare bulbs.

Check to see if any of the bulbs are loose. It may take only one loose/broken one for none of them light up.

Series wired Christmas lights are no fun. If you want the decoration to light up as before, easiest may be to pull off the lights and glue a new set behind, hopefully LED ones. Otherwise it's a job of checking each bulb for continuity with a multimeter.

The very first bulb, the clear one with a white tip is the fuse bulb. If that's blown, none of them will work.

Replace the light string with an LED one. Job done.

This . Colour the LEDs in with a felt tip pen to create the correct colour.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Doofus, you may have been right about the fuse bulb (the wire inside looked a bit frazzled) but we’ll never know; there was a spare which I installed but broke with pliers while doing so, brilliant. I put a standard bulb in its stead but still no joy so there could be others gone.
So Amazon to the rescue, new LEDs on their way, £6.99 for a two metre strip so I’m only expecting the highest standards of Chinese manufacturing*

*think I’ll turn them off before going to bed.

Just to wrap this up, LEDs installed and they work perfectly, allaying any fears I had about Chinese tat bought off Amazon, though I have also installed a dedicated fused spur for it incorporating numerous MCBs and RCDs, along with an automated halocarbon fire suppression system. I shall sleep soundly tonight, in a tent in the garden.

I’d get those curtains dipped in a vat of fire retardant if I were you.
