Have just noticed that the oil pressure appears very low on idle (around 8-10) but then is at the 50-60 mark when driving along. Is this a problem? It seems not correct for the pressure to be that low when idling to me. The engine has been rebuilt twice now but does sound a little bit noisy (again) - could this be an indication that the engine problems are happening again?

8-10 sounds about right when it's warm, mine only has 5-8 psi at idle, depending on how the car is feeling at the time!!
I'm now on my 3rd oil pressure sender

Is the oil pressure sender something you can easily change yourself? If so where is it?

Mines very low on idle too, but once you press the accelerater, it goes right up, must be a S6 trait.

I think most Tuscans have been through at least a couple of oil pressure senders. They seem to all read differently somehow!?

I'm on my second sender. Both in single figures at idle, and as low as 5/6psi when the oil is hot.

Third sender for me. Previous one read a lot lower, and caused the warning light to flicker at high revs.

New sender unit - all fixed

Mines started idleing at between 0 and 2 psi - a bit worrying when your in a cant get out of right filter at the traffic lights in town! I think it is probably the sensor in that the red light does not come on and it seems to run OK. If I am wrong I you date you on how high the pistons went!

Basically if you ave low oil pressure in the Tuscan you hve 2 possible:
1) Oil presseure sensor is knackered and needs replacing
2) The oil pump is knackered and needs replacing i.e. need to take off the sump and replace the pump in the bottom end.

We need the pump replaced so not the cheap first option.....

Would,ve thought 8-10psi normal at hot tickover, You sure it needs doing. Tho with 2 rebuilds you should know i guess. Mine idles hot around 10psi. Let us know how you get on and the cost, Ta D.

Have had the oil pump replaced (it iwas in a right state when I had a look at it); had the main bearings renewed at the same (killing 2 birds with one stone). Also had a new alternator, 4 new tyres and a 36K service as well. All in £3.5K

Job done! Was this the origional pump do you know or was it swapped at rebuilds? At least the motors got a few(in S6 terms) miles under its belt. Heres hoping that sorts it for the next 36k.

As far as we know it was the original pump, no record of it having been changed in either of the rebuilds.
