Very excited for this, trailer looks excellent and unlike so much today DOESN'T give much away.

Apparently he's said this is the film he wanted to make when he did Close Encounters, but the technology didn't exist for him to do it justice.

Looks like it'll be much bigger in scope than just dealing with confirmation of Alien life.

Close Encounters was basically a documentary. Looking forward to this next chapter.

Not so much about aliens, as about a man prepared to destroy his family and then abandon them over an obsession.

It's not a nice film if you look at what happens in it.

I was being slightly tongue-in-cheek, but not entirely.

Spielberg originally wanted to film it as a straight UFO documentary, inspired by something he had experienced earlier in his life, but was delayed by filming Jaws. When Jaws proved to be a box office hit, the studio wanted him to turn it into another blockbuster, so he rewrote and fictionalised the script, with advice and guidance from J Allen Hynek and Jacques Vallee.

The main UFO scene was purportedly based on an alleged incident at Holloman AFB in the 1960s. NASA tried to stop him releasing the film, which would be unusual if it was pure fiction.

And Jaws isn't a film about a shark. Apparently.

Down the Rabbit hole -

Spielberg says NASA tried to stop him releasing the film via a 20 page letter.

No one else has ever seen this letter.

Clever marketing.

I'll be honest, that's what made me like it so much. When I first saw it as a kid I didn't really get on with it but watching it more recently I realised how dark it actually is. Brilliant film.

That is a well put together trailer! It got my juices flowing and I had zero idea about the film's existence until two minutes ago.

Looks like Blunt and Cruise are never going to get around to doing the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow / Live Die Repeat they said they'd find time for eventually. Shame as that and Oblivion are two fantastic Cruise sci-fi's he did back to back.

Oblivion is one of my all-time favourites. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

I am clearly not an effective team.

The question is will it surmount the dead eyes and personality vacuum of Ms. Blunt ?

Don't forget the gob hanging gormlessly open.

I am of course looking forward to this.

Perhaps Steve's now old enough that he no longer cares about skirting around the truth and will have an actual live alien doing meet and greets, plus Q&A, at each screening.

I hope I'm wrong but it all seems to follow the usual path.
Great idea etc but will be over-hyped before release and quite likely be a disappointment.
Agree re Emily, relies totally on good looks and having her mouth open most of the time, but hey don't they all smile
