2025 Peugeot 5008 1.2 Hybrid - The Family Car
Discussion
Its been a while since Ive posted on here, the last time I posted I think I had just part exchanged the wifes old focus for a Toyota Corolla Verso 2.2d4d. That gave us quite a bit of grief and we decided that we was not replacing it with another shed.
So in mid July, we got a Peugeot
Its a 2025 registered 5008. 7 seater with plenty of storage.
Every extra under the sun which has taken some getting used to coming from sheds.
1.2 Hybrid which returns 45mpg around town and 53mpg on the motorway.
Its currently on 2900 miles and were quite happy with it for a family car.

The steering wheel took quite alot of getting used to, as did the stupid gearbox selector control but other than that its been quite nice driving something that we arent worried about leaving us stranded at the side of the motorway.

How do you find the i-drive cockpit layout? I guess the smaller wheel is handy for car parks etc? Does the 1.2 feel okay for the size of the car? Someone I know test drove a Vauxhall Grandland Hybrid (same platform etc) and said that it had to be worked quite hard to get up to speed.
Lovely looking car though OP, Peugeot seem to have hit the nail on the head with their design in my opinion!

It took a little getting used to but I like it. The panoramic screen keeps everything needed in vision of the driver but isnt too distracting either. Theres plenty of customisation through the settings to get everything how you like it. The steering wheel was strange at first but it does make the handling feel more responsive, I wouldnt say it makes it easier in the car parks though but thats just because the car feels like a boat and is a struggle to get into a tight space sometimes. The 1.2 feels fine to me, I was concerned about the engine size when the dealer put me in it for a test drive, I wanted the 1.6 version but that would have been another 6 week wait- Id also test driven the grandland and hated it. In eco-mode it is a little sluggish but around town/in traffic thats absolutely fine. I like to float around in electric mode as much as possible. In Normal mode the power feels fine getting up to speed, my only complaint is when your leaving a side road onto a national/faster road the gear changes arent great BUT you can get around that by manually shifting on the paddles or putting it into sport mode. Sport mode is a stupid amount of fun for a 7 seater, Ive had cars with "sport" mode where it does absolutely sod all but in the 5008 the suspension instantly stiffens up, the brakes feel sharper, the handling is more responsive and it absolutely flies.
Ive only pushed it really HARD once, when my 13 month old son was having a seizure while I was at work at 3am. I put it into sport mode on the M4 from Bristol to Swindon and kept my foot flat to the floor. It handled great, felt planted, stable and I was confident in what I was pushing it to do. The police have started to use these and the 3008s locally and I understand why.
As for the design, I love the front end. Its a beautiful car BUT I personally dont like the rear end. I just think it lacks something.
We had a previous generation 5 seater as a courtesy car earlier this year. No idea what the engine was but it seemed a fairly reasonable car with a well laid out interior. Utterly anonymous and uninvolved drive but that's not really what these are about.
Yours looks good OP - any more pics?

I think that's a placebo, the 5008 only has passive dampers if I am not mistaken....Nice car!
I have the E-5008 fully electric in Inagro blue. 4000 miles into mine, i really like it.

I had the fully electric version on loan for 48 hours and really enjoyed it but because we rent and the landlord doesnt want to install chargers it just isnt a realistic choice for us yet. Ill look at your thread now. I have the E-5008 fully electric in Inagro blue. 4000 miles into mine, i really like it.

Isn t that quite poor mpg for a tiny engine hybrid? I guess it weights a lot.
Ive driven other hybrids that return worse - My previous job had a fleet that consisted of A Volvo XC60 Hybrid, A Nissan XTrail Hybrid and a Dacia Jogger Hybrid - All of them returned high thirties MPG regardless of how they were driven. The dealer did say that the MPG would improve a little once its hit 5000 miles but not by a whole lot. Its quite a large and heavy car with a small engine, So im quite happy with what it returns. Its far better than the previous cars we have owned so it doesnt bother us

I was in the same boat until this weekend when i moved. Was always the plan so took the risk, been charging at my parents' house once a week and top ups when needed on the road. hasnt been too bad! Charge point coming in the next few weeks.BigHeavy10 said:

In fact it's in bad traffic where I've seen 60mpg and once out on the motorway it drops to 45mpg, which isn't too shabby considering it's depending on the petrol engine to keep me between 70 and 80.
ETA
Isn't the 1.2 a mild hybrid?

I do wonder what the long term reliability is for these tiny three cylinder engines in such a heavy car.
A colleague has a 2023 1.2 on 130,000 miles. He uses it for work covering just over 200 miles a shift on average. Changes the oil every 8,000 miles instead of Peugeots reccomended 16,000 miles and has had zero issues so far. He says hell drive it until it goes bang and isnt worth repairing. Personally, I dont intend on finding out. Itll get chopped in for something else at around 4-5 years old.

I wouldn't buy a car with the Puretech engine in.

We have started looking into these, to replace our 2017 Smax Sport. Will be interesting to see how you get on with it!
The Carbana in Bassett is pretty good, isn't it?
It is when theres nobody there The Carbana in Bassett is pretty good, isn't it?

Its always rammed and I dont like being pressured into doing a rush job by a line of cars behind me waiting. The car is minging as a result. The BP jet washes had to upgrade to "compete" and recently got "foam lances" but they never work and when they do, theyre rubbish.
